It was stupid of them to try this before actually releasing their last big Kickstarter project. Which I understand has been delayed again.

Yeah, the whole thing has just been incredibly fishy, and smells like something AAA publishers would do. Relevant Jimquisition episode. |

It hasn't been delayed, it is still on tract. http://www.vgstations.com/en/news/item/4359-might-no-9-not-delayed-still-on-track-for-next-month.html In fact, from what I know it was delayed once and it was pretty quickly for the reason why (due to a real retail release). |

Mighty No 9 was delayed from April to September as Comcept got a publisher for it. Deep Silver planned:
- To release physical copies of the game for several ports - Include the Ray DLC (so a stage, boss, playable character) which is free for backers. The DLC wasn't going to be made until after the games release initially, but with plublisher funding Comcept could make it before. - Japanese + French voice overs in addition to subtitles for several languages. Ofcourse this caused a delay but you are getting more content at no extra price, now the game is more accessible to other countries. |

going for both the anime and the game at the same time was a risky venture, the anime just got funded at least, but the game had to be saved.... at least they will both get made but they should have focused on one project first.

They misused Kickstarter in regards to the game. They had alternate funding the whole while (or it seems that way to me), but were using kickstarter to gain additional funding and attention (probably more for attention than anything). And since the Kickstarter for the game failed, there will be no funds provided by Kickstarter for the game: funds are only collected if the funding goal is met, and it wasn't met. |

How is it that the ending of the game being already planned is such a big selling point?

Kickstarter's e-begging potential has been unlocked; get funding from traditional sources but hold out those hands anyway.

Do you think a small company like Comcept can just twiddle their thumbs until each game is released? Having staff who have completed their assigned tasks doing nothing for so long? Ofcourse staff have to work to get paid so making a new project is necessary, all this was discussed in an interview with Inafune.
Admittidly finding information wasn't as easy compared to MN9's kickstarter. Pretty sure a different team was used for updates this time. Mighty No 9 was due out in April,Comcept would've planned the Red Ash announcement awhile back so couldn't predict a publisher would come along causing a delay. I hear alot of complaining that Red Ash got funds from elsewhere, did you think $800k is enough to make the 3D game you were expecting? On par with MML standards? Heck Comcept don't even get all that as they would pay part of that amount to Kickstarter and Backer rewards. An investor would be brought in to provide more funding to make the game all that it can be. Unless you don't want that? I didn't see any whining when Deep Silver came along and unlocked stretch goals that backers hadn't funded. Well except compaints about the delay but most people didn't even know the reason for the date being pushed back. Deep Silver funded 2 extra voice overs,Ray DLC and many subtitle options. Sure the kickstarter was already funded for MN9 but in any event a company supplying funds unlocks stretch goals. In this instance as we hadn't reached even the initial goal so the first few goals were unlocked by FUZE. And if Comcept could they would've lowered the goal so we could unlock some extra content but that can't be done on Kickstarter. Comcept didn't hide the partnership and announced it when the deal was made official. Would you announce to backers "hey guys, the kickstarter is funded" then FUZE pulls out before its finalised? If Comcept made the deal and only announced it after the kickstarter was over, then I'd say they were hiding another source. But as I said before Comcept weren't getting much in terms of money and an investor is to be expected. Look at how much Mighty No 9 raised and that was only a 2D side scroller, Red Ash's initial goal wasn't even 1 million.
