Yeah, Recently LN's are Getting more popular and in higher frequency in the west so they are starting to count them as well.

It's just a typo on ANN's part. The NYT correctly listed Yen Press on their own site.

No, there have been light novels popping up for awhile. But, at times, they were not pointed out to be LNs...for some reason.
