Is that budget right? Frozen had a budget of US$150 million, there's no way they're spending US$240 million on a single Hello Kitty movie. Does that budget include building their own animation studio, too?

I want to see a Badtz Maru/Tuxedo Sam buddy cop spinoff movie. Make this a whole Sanrio Cinematic Universe.

I'm pretty sure the $240m budget is for the time machine needed in 2019 to go back 4 years into the past to kick the shit out of whomever's brilliant idea this was.

I don't think Hello Kitty is popular enough nowadays for her to have a successful movie in the States. They should have made this film years ago.

That's a big budget for a debut movie (unless it's a series). It'll also be 3DCG.

Well this makes no sense. Even Aardman, who had the backing of major studios, made their films for far less money than this, kept to western sensibilities, and got good reviews for all of them, struggled to make money on their films.
Whoever's financing this for Sanrio is probably gonna lose a hell of a lot of money.

This could fund like a year's worth of TV anime series, what the hell is wrong with these guys.

My question is, will this make much in the box office? I just can't see it making much, however with 240 million, it will look great even if it's full CG since they can get the best people to work on the CG.
They should just make a Jewelpet movie with just the Jewelpets and no humans, which would make them more money than this.

Aw man, 2019 is such a long wait. I guess I can wait that long, after all, I have a bunch of Sanrio animation I haven't seen yet to watch in the meantime.
In any case, I'm hyped!

I rarely see any Jewelpet merchandise here in the U.S. I've only ever seen some in the Sanrio store two or so hours away from me, and even then there's hardly any. If this was Sanrio's Japanese branch we were talking about, perhaps. But this is their American one. And here in America, Hello Kitty is the only Sanrio character most people know about unless they're Sanrio fans.
The mainstream audience (in the US) is not aware of Jewelpet, they ARE aware of Hello Kitty.
I would love for Sanrio's other characters to be more popular here, but the reality is, only Hello Kitty is popular in America, and a couple others to a much lesser extent (My Melody, Keroppi, Badtz-Maru, Chococat, and a few others).

$160m-$240m is a huge fortune to spend on a film. Here's hoping the computer graphics will be great with that big of a budget.
