Heads up, looks like you posted the episode from two weeks ago.
I'd interject on the bit about borderline anime encouraging fans to take it even further: some artists were already going to do that anyway even if the anime/manga/property in question was completely wholesome like Madoka, PreCure, Gundam Build Fighters, Kantai Collection, Touhou etc. The show doesn't need to be a Senran Kagura or HSDxD for the doujinshi artists to cross the line. In fact, I find the opposite usually happens where your highly sexualized anime tend to not get so many doujinshi, except maybe for Queen's Blade where the fanbase existed before the show from the game and the figures. I wouldn't say it's the first time ANNCast's touched porn. I remember an early episode having an extended discussion on Urotsukidoji.
I'm still listening so I don't know; is the infamous 'sad panda' site mentioned at all in this podcast? |

I started off consuming vanilla hentai, then when I got older I "explored" the depths of depravity (not scat or tentacles though; both are total turnoffs to me and always have been). But now I'm mostly back to vanilla. Not for their plots (LOL), but for the same reason that Jacob got into hentai: because I enjoyed watching a cute couple in an anime and I wanted to see them go further with their relationship than they did in the show itself. Because of that reason I almost never read original works, only doujinshi.

Really interesting interview that, rarely get to hear from someome within this field.
Pleased to here they will publish works in the rape, mind break, NTR and similar genres (he didn't mention a couple of those but we know what it means). I like vanilla as much as the next guy/gal but I much prefer the stuff on the more extreme end of the spectrum. Likewise them saying they will publish lolicon is just fantastic, brave decision.
I've noticed that, can't find many DxD doujins but you get a lot more for series like K-On!, FF and Dragon Quest to name but 3. None of those 3 feature anything explicit. |

I will always brag I knew that guy in high school. You never know where people are gonna end up a decade later. Many folks I knew were a mixture of surprise and angry. I salute the King of Hentai, and defend them going Legit. Become Emperor.

Interesting, I knew it was more than most think, but didn't know up to 30% is by female artists.
Regarding the last part, wow, good for him! Very brave and I'm very heartened to hear his principled stance and consultation with CBDLF. Good to know about Oregon at least. Reminds me of Justin's answer about CPM and Night Shift Nurses and tossing their lawyer's advice to release a later uncut edition: animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2014-08-15/.77634 |

Good podcast!
I’m glad to hear FAKKU is going to go fully legit. I very much dislike scanlations if for besides other arguments out of respect. It’s why I did not initially want to purchase their licensed titles if they were still hosting pirated material. However, I did think more on it and ended up making a purchase despite the illegal component still being around. Wani have picked a bed to be in so to speak. So I suppose in a situation like this where a company is transitioning and trying new things it is better to prove I do want something legally in English and open my wallet than no sale at all. And I’m very happy with what I bought, pleased to see it uncensored too. I wish them the best in being able to publish what they want as they want it. Very few companies have been able to overcome obstacles to either get uncensored files or not further censor publications. Or some things just don’t get licensed at all. People should contribute to the CBLDF or similar organizations too if they can. Comics and literature that aren't even adult have been a subject of challenges, bans, bad publicity, and legal troubles for people and organizations more than one might expect. So it's important that there is educational work about comics being done and support available when it's needed. |

I just tried to visit the website just out of curiosity, only to find out it's not available in my country. I haven't read hentai manga since I was like 10, so it's not like I'm complaining about it.
I'm looking forward to listening to this on the train home tonight. |

The most interesting part to me was at 22:40:
It goes without saying that this will be a big change for Fakku going forward, but as to how big of a change it'll be we'll have to see in a week or so when it goes live, but hopefully it won't mean what I fear it means, in that all the content I've become familiar with over the years on Fakku will be wiped overnight. With so much content gone I think many people will think that Fakku is dead compared to what it was. Of course there are still dozens of other hentai sites which one can visit to find content no longer available on Fakku like exhentai, nhentai, pururin, etc, so what will really change is that Fakku will become the go-to place for legit hentai, which I fully support since the Fakku model is the most progressive and direct I've seen to date. Highest-quality uncensored print and DRM-free digital editions is a first in the publishing industry let alone the hentai industry (in which it is also a first since hentai manga in Japan is censored, which means some might even consider reverse-importation to obtain an uncensored print copy), and I hope other publishers soon realize that the Fakku way is objectively the best way, just like how the GOG way is the best way to buy games. Fakku is in a unique position being the only North American hentai company that is its own publisher, distributor, and retailer. Being directly in control of the chain between content creators and consumers is a win-win that removes the obstacles that often get in the way of customers getting the high-quality product they expect and artists getting the compensation they deserve. Most porn isn't worth paying for, but I have to admire publishing things like lolicon stuff uncensored.

I disagree when it comes to something like a doujinshi of work you want to see smut of by an artist you adore, like Shuten Douji doing some Dragon Quest 5/Dragon Ball stuff, Circle Outerworld when they ran the AMG Midgard series, Dragonaut from Nise Kurosaki. With the way doujinshi distribution works coupled with pixiv and personal blogs, sometimes it just feels more personal and tight with the artist. You're not going through some corporate step ladder, it's just the fan, the artist, and what they're offering. It's so much fun to see what your couple dozen favorite doujinka are going to come out with for the next Comiket or whatever event, and placing those orders for the stuff you really want. And they don't always have to be parodies. I dunno, it just feels more fresh instead of one artist only doing one thing for years or decades. Eromanga and doujinshi just makes them much more dynamic in what they have to draw, there's less monotony compared to where manga can start getting stale even if you love the artwork. An older AWO podcast with Clarissa on discussing doujinshi mentioned that erodoujinshi are easier for non-Japanese readers to get into precisely because it can be enjoyed on a visual base level without specifically needing to know context, which would be vital for non-h books. You can read for just art, but story and dialogue definitely do enhance the experience which is why people are willing to commission for translations. For the nasty stuff: yeah it exists and if it offends you then don't read it. There's plenty of cutesy, vanilla, sex-positive, girl-in-charge, girl-comfortable-with-sexuality works out there. Attacking other stuff is just goddamned annoying and makes you seem petty and miserable. If someone can't find those tamer works, then they're not looking hard enough or they're biased and predetermined to pretend they don't exist. |

You sound like you don't want anyone even discussing this material. I don't think I "attacked" it, I just talked about it with him. Yeesh. |

It wasn't even you; there was an article a few months back from another site about trying to find the sex positive stuff and the conclusion they came to was that none existed. I should have mentioned that before, I'm sorry. http://www.themarysue.com/sex-positive-hentai/ Here's the article. |

If Jacob really is going through with this, then FAKKU's going to see a fairly massive reduction in its userbase, so hopefully for his sake the book profits cover the hit in ad revenue. It's all well and good that FAKKU is going the Crunchyroll route, but on their published releases so far they're missing one of the main components that made the latter so successful: a free access option. There are a large number of people out there who flat-out aren't willing to spend money on porn, and Crunchyroll has the corresponding audience for anime in general covered with its lower-quality and/or week-delayed options. But with FAKKU's releases, you're either forced to pay $7 for high-res downloads you may not want, or pay $20 for a physical book that you definitely don't want...or just go to one of the thousand other sites that's illegally uploaded it. It just seems like a poor business decision, especially in an era when pretty much every piece of current media has some sort of free legal option available.
