It saddens me sometimes to see which shows end up as part of the "S.A.V.E." line since it tends to indicate less than impressive sales. Michiko & Hatchin felt really unique and was a blast to watch, so it is a bummer (albeit not a surprise) that it ended up as a SAVE title. Then again, I suspect Funimation expected this since in the commentary Christopher Bevins mentioned that he had to push for a few years to get Funimation to license it.

Does anyone know what the dub on Slam Dunk is like? If it's decent, it might be a fun "retro" title for my middle school's anime club. Thanks!

I wanted to buy the Denki-Gai anime since I loved it, even with the expensive price, but I thought that price was for all the series, not just 1/3 of the series. I can afford to spend $100 on a series every once in awhile but I can't afford to spend $300 on a series.
Also with Tokyo Ravens it's funny that the review thinks there is too much back story and dialog. I really wish there was more because at time in the beginning I was lost as to what was happening and they didn't explain it well. It felt like I was already supposed to know what was happening and why. I thought maybe it would be explained later, but things never get explained. I was ok with that because I liked the show or at least what I could get from it. Towards the end of the first season though they threw more stuff into the show with no explanation and I was confused again and gave up. It had great potential but was just too confusing with not enough back story or explanations. |

I've watched some random scenes of it, so I'm not the best one to judge, but it sounded good to me. Especially for a Toronto-based dub. |

I just wish that there was a way to get all the music from Tokyo Ravens (in particular Lisa Komine's English and Japanese versions of insert song Red Monochrome) without having to buy all the Japanese special editions.

I suppose that is why one of the extras is at tutorial by Kon that gives a basic explanation. Of course, that doesn't do you much good when not watching it on disc. |

well that's a surprise that they have lisa did the english insert version for red monochrome. especially considering that funi haven't done english version of Openings since the old days of DBZ and yu yu hakusho. and more so that they have her instead of natsume's VA Catlin Glass who can sing in japaneese. that would have been everyone's assumption if funi had announced that there would be an english insert version for the opening.
and also kon is kind of a "moe character" and since its a funi dub, every dub watcher in the otaku community knew monica rial would get the role as kon and as predicted that was the case. which is a good thing since rial does moe characters pretty well. however while the series is good and all i'm definitely worried since unfortunately during some of the eps of part one, hints of the series having harem tendices. though i have no problem with harem series, this is one series where it wont work too well. also i'm even more surprised their even giving digimon tamers the light of day for the this week shelf segment. that's one series let alone one of many kid friendly franchises that should be an auto perishable and avoid at all cost scenario since to be frank , no one other than kids in the 7-13 yr old category will be buying it. the only time any fans in the otaku community will be even giving this series as well of the others like PM & YGO any light of day is that their being released in the US with the original japaneese scripts and Openings. other than that they will resort to watching the fansubs or for the hardcore otakus, towards non h and h fanart doujins. |

Now that Michiko is S.A.V.E., I plan to buy it off Rakuten tomorrow (so I can get free shipping when I order it with the second Tiger & Bunny movie). I don't usually buy Funi's initial half set releases under any circumstances, I was waiting for any complete collection though as several friends have told me I should watch it. I think Steins;Gate is the only Funi series I've bought in those initial half-sets since they started doing those years ago (not counting when they fall into the bargain bin, of course). Their releases are just too expensive for me initially, I'd rather wait for a set down the line. I usually only buy Nozomi or Discotek things right away as I prefer old series and I like their prices better. I mean, $50 MSRP for 26 eps of Mazinger Z Impact? A show I know I want more than most new shows? Seems a better deal for me. And the thing is, I think Sentai's prices are worse than that, about equal to Viz, then followed by Pony Canyon and Aniplex, so Funi isn't even the worst offender in my book, just the one with the largest output. Note that I'm only counting new releases here, not Viz's reprices or Funi's cheaper down the road editions (Sentai's are always still too much for me, I'd love to get Space Bros, but I'm waiting for the Xmas sale)
Still I am glad to finally be able to get Michiko & Hatchin. |

Rose of Versailles is definitely a winner. Even if this premise were used today for a brand new series (which I wouldn't mind) it wouldn't have the same style or spirit as it does.
As for Michiko and Hatchin now in save... I can't say I'm really surprised. Unfortunately, if I get around to it I'll probably just stream it despite the price, but with Denki-Gai... have yet to watch it but it will by no means be through purchasing the Pony Canyon release. |

Actually, they did do an English version for the OP (and IIRC the ED as well) for Ouran High School Host Club (which were good, but kinda awkward), and one of the EDs of the second season of School Rumble (which is superb, both Tenma and Yakumo's English VAs totally nailed it). |

I've been waiting on buying the show since the Tagalog dub is still being re-run. Wonder if the original release has been priced down on rightstuf.com yet.... |

Lisa Komine has previously done both Japanese and English opening songs for the anime Rental Magica: Sora ni Saku (宇宙に咲く) and Faith (same tune but the lyrics have different meanings). |
