cruel angels thesis never really represented the show in general, prince igor was a better fit in the long run.
by itself its a good song, but does not fit in the nge world...

Just as likely that they'd get killed (or at least punched out) just for singing "Cruel Angel's Thesis" in the first place, disregarding issues of tone or lyrical accuracy.

No, no. Some anime songs have transcended otaku subculture and have become songs that are acceptable by the general populace. God Knows (Haruhi), for instance, is another hit that people just love to sing.

Basically, considering the patronizing attitude most adult Japanese have toward anime to begin with, anyone drunk enough to sing anime theme songs is going to pick the most kitschily pop-culture-exposed ones, hence Yamato, Gatchaman and Cutie Honey being on the list....What, no Doraemon? 
(Although it's just as true in Japan that no male ever sings Let It Go...)

I just hate to listen to Disney songs in anime conventions, anime fan meetings, etc. I don't mind if people cosplay Disney characters, but when I go to a karaoke room, I don't want to hear Disney songs over and over again, especially if I have to wait to sing the songs I've chosen.
