Looks like a fun game and of Course ANN would take issue with a sexy Ninja outfit that shows some leg and is form fitting, Fun gameplay and great character design is what catches my Attention when it cones to old games like this.

To be pretty fair Kaede’s outfit could have shin/knee guards.
Not to mention if this game is 1:1 remake of the original game in gameplay there’s not much to care about as the original game was obnoxiously difficult.

Honestly, I dont care about the difficulty per se when it comes to old games like this, so a 1:1 is ok in my book. What I do care about is great level design, Character design and music....and Kaede's design is peak Kunoichi, she doesnt need shin or Knee guards, her legs are perfect as they are.

Her outfit seems pretty perfect to me and is just like the NES game  And it's nice to see the rare remake/remaster that isn't censored to high hell when it comes to female designs. Kudos to the team.

There wasn’t anything to censor though all they did was expose her meaty legs. Which were thick even in some of the art for the original game.

Hey if we’re going to complain about making changes to a character’s appearance because of modern sensibilities. It’s only fair to keep that same energy when it comes to making changes to a character’s design for titillation.
Let’s not pretend this new design was done for any other reason or that it’s “peak”.

As we all know, Anime News Network is a hivemind and there have never been any differing opinions between writers on this website ever before. 
Also, the review is otherwise resoundingly positive. I like Kaede's design, but I also like Kunoichi's design from the Ninja Warriors remake (which was from the same team), and she manages to not be half-naked. A gentle wag of the finger isn't the worst thing in the world. Don't go looking for reasons to get upset at folks, man, it's no way to live.

Just because something is in the original game doesn't mean it makes it to the remaster or remake. I think the point was about how often times it doesn't make it so it was nice to see a faithful costume for once. For example Dragon Quest is giving the girls spats and more clothing in the DQ HD remakes. They did the same thing to Manya/Maya's outfit in the recent Monsters game.

Problem with this is that remake Kaede’s outfit sans probably the hot pink color scheme isn’t entirely faithful to the original’s outfit.
