The first season was funny to watch, needed more action scenes though. My only concern with the second season is that they have Kurumi join the group and take part in the "ceremonies" which may be pushing the envelope a bit...

OK so from what I saw and looked up apparently season 1 was light novels 1-3 and this one is 4 to 7 now my question is why do this when you don't have enough material to potentially wait until you at least have like 13 in my opinion and try to adapt 3 novels and wait for new material.
Now for the record I'm not complaining I'm just concerned because the last time something like this was done it ended up as the critically scorned mahou sensou which people hated (I didn't finish it because of it being boring)

Why that should wait if a single-cour run needs only about 3 LNs? If it is just 3 LNs that they need, they have enough material already (you wrote it yourself, LNs #4-7).
So for Mahō Sensō, it wasn't a lack of source material (at the times there were 7 LNs out), but the quality of the source material and the ability to translate it into an anime.

what I meant about sensou was the way that it was adapted and how bad it was received and as for testament I guess based on reactions to it you'd want to strike while it's hot

Didn't write this before but pertaining to testament and other light novels how long does it usually take a light novel to be published / released?

They are probably going to have 9 LNs when the second season ends. No big deal. There is no need to wait because this is best censorship in anime history. They need to make more.

It can depend a lot on the author, but I think 2-3 a year for the series I follow. Some authors are slower. I don't know if anyone really does more than that in a year. I'm guessing the publishers apply the breaks at that point which is why some of them just do other series at the same time.

This got a sequel, announced even while the original series is airing?
It's almost as if they are making things incredibly over-the-top in a blatant attempt to sell DVDs.

Of course. The whole point of most commercial anime is to sell something. Disks, novels, figures, pillows or whatever. Given the content of this show, it is unlikely to be art for art's sake.
