I've lived in Australia my entire life but I've never once step foot in Tasmania. Definitely will have to check the place out if I ever travel down there.

It's very astronomical that a bakery would just happen to resemble that of the bakery in Kiki's Delivery Service. The food there must taste unbelievably good. Very Happy

Depends what reference materials Ghibli was using?...

Though the locations in Kiki were supposedly modeled after old Stockholm (Sweden's capital) and that's on the other side of the world from this, literally.

Wow that's a really cool story I've read. Looks like a lot of anime fan will go to Tasmania to check this area out.

@enurtsol, I agreed with you to wear the outfit you just pictured when you go to Tasmania. Also make sure to wear a shirt with this character:

As an Australian I was still unsure if people actually lived in Tasmania. I guess this solves it. The workers at the bakery live in Tasmania.
(I'm being facetious obviously)

Wow, that is interesting. I really love it when you find places that harken back to an era long gone, yet it's still existing in present day for folks to get a taste of.

Ah shoot, sorry. I didn't notice the URL got cut off when I pasted it in. Thanks. I've updated the article with Dr. Norris' paper as well.

Now that's a curious thing. Out of the several hundreds of thousands of bakeries in the world, I guess that one might resemble the one depicted in the movie.

I'm honestly not seeing much of a resemblance, at least a resemblance that would make THIS particular bakery the one that looks the closest to the one in Kiki's Delivery Service. Surely there must be other bakeries around the world that look much like this one too--just that this was the one that was found first, I suppose.
