You could find all you wanted to know about fan subs with a quick google search. I'm not sure if I can tell you where to download fansubs because they are illegal. Fan subs are anime episodes that have subtitles made by fans and put onto a japanese episode. |

Why are they illegal? Some of my friends do fansubs, what are the penalties if they get caught? (meaning they watch them, not make them)

They are copyright violations just like with getting music off the internet, someone holds the liscense and are losing money since you are watching a fansub rather than buying the dvd. If you want to debate this do it on one of the two threads in the talkback area of the forum. |

well, this comes under the cateogory that "I am not a lawyer."
That said, the reason fansubs are illegal is because they infringe on intellectual property rights. Fansubbers are changing the original work without the original creator's permission. The Berne Convention protects the original work. http://www.law.cornell.edu/treaties/berne/overview.html I've debated and pointed out information on this before, but I lack the time to do so right now, so the URL is listed there for your reference. |

Run a search in the forum for all the viewpoints on why fansubs are illegal. End of discussion.
