Not much of a surprise there. Interesting that Lupin keeps on getting up and down on the top spot.

I know, Evangelion is almost always number one and Lupin III is number 4 or 5 most of the time.

I'm actually surprised Lupin isn't the number one anime. I would think that more people in Japan know about Lupin than know about Eva.

It was probably an internet poll. Most of the titles are pretty otaku centric. Otherwise shows like Doreaman and Sazae-san would be at the top

Those results sound familiar. Didn't ANN report on this poll before?

Pretty solid, and obvious choices.

Yay! Eva and Haruhi, my two favorite series. Razz

Slam Dunk? I remember liking the show a lot when I was like 6 but I never did get around to reading the manga.

Number one, huh...

Yeah there was a survey that was which shows are most popular by way of fan voting and one by way of celebrity voting. I like how the top 2 manga really have no one interested over here in the states. I am actually surprised sort of by Evangelion winning, I thought it would of been Totoro or Lupin.

This seems to be the breakdown:

And the choices:

Lots of 25-35 aged males.

I was surprised as well, many of the choices do seem to be animes popular with otaku.

I was expecting the older shows such as Lupin or Doraemon to take the top. Although Evangelion is a very influential show, i didn't know it was as well know to the mainstream public as the shows I mentioned before. Same with Miyazaki movies, but then again I don't live in Japan.

Unlike the celebrity voting, I knew a majority of these shows/manga..

Evangelion fans are probably dedicated enough to vote for Evangelion whenever they have the chance.

Eh, not exactly great lists, but more or less what I'd expect from a poll. Popularity contests like this always end up including tons of series that are popular at the moment but will likely be footnotes in twenty years, but it is cool to see Phoenix is still popular enough to make the top ten. I'm surprised Patlabor 2 is so high as well.

Slam Dunk is evidence enough that what is a great seller over in Japan is not a great seller in the United States.

That said, when I have the money, I really need to buy all of the Singapore editions...

The two lists aren't that bad considering this is a popularity poll. Of course you have the usual suspects, but there are a few pleasent surprises in there, too.

Above Black Jack, of all things.

Probably the biggest shock on here, considering the rest seem like the fan favorites one would expect. I never knew that the second Patlabor movie is that well liked.

Just a reminder. The results of this poll were originally released in October 2006, so this is rather old news.

Raijin could have had Naruto in their magazine and it still would have tanked. Just a bad time and place for them to attempt a weekly magazine without TPB's to support it until it was already too late. I'm suprised Viz hasn't picked it up yet, because it'll probably do fine in as a SJ series.

Even though this was probably open to anyone, I'm guessing it was otaku/serious fan heavy and probably not entirely representative of the general populace. I can't think of any other reason Nana is down at 50.
