Yeah good luck to them to try to make their goal come true, but honestly I think the Japanese government will be too busy with something else like their economic recession (and other issues).
In case if any of you miss the news: Japan is officially in recession again CNN Money BBC News Time-Japan Sinks Into Recession (Again) Time-It May Be Too Late for Japan’s PM to Fix the World’s Third Largest Economy So I don't know if the caucus can achieve their goal while Japan is in recession. |

It is quite sad to see that nowadays people justify politicians lack of action before they have even had the opportunity to do something. IMO they should act because they are in a recesion, now more than ever creative minds (whose work might help the country climb out the hole they are in) need a break from the goverment. |

Another problem is that the Japanese government and the companies (which include anime, manga, and video game companies) are not taking the international market seriously, and they keep bringing up piracy and all that other stuff to justify keeping their product in Japan only, the international market can help fix the Japanese economy and they're not taking advantage of that. This is how bad Japan's GDP look: At least Abe did the right thing by delaying the next tax hike. But I don't know how Japan can recover from this. |

It seems to me that the last paragraph, about the Youth Healthy Development Ordinance, is not connected to rest of the article. It is an entirely different subject.
Am I missing something? |

It's probably related to this part:
The "but" in the sentence above doesn't quite make sense, unless it means: "Yamada says that he definitely hopes to protect the creators' freedom of expression, but that the group as a whole is currently focused on [ financial ] legislation," |

@ configspace,
Yes it would make sense if the legislation that they wanted to look at included the Youth Healthy Development Ordinance. Thank you. |

You're talking more about the entertainment industry than the stuff that this recession is about. The government is trying to ease the economy and increase domestic spending (which is the real problem) by printing more money. This leads to a temporary positive fiscal session, but when it reaches its limit really quickly, it drops. They've been in four major recessions since 2008 because they keep going back and forth without addressing their crazy national debt directly. Unfortunately, answers to solve the problem are missing, so there's no way to know where Japan may be headed in the future. Either way, it's going to be a major crisis if Japan falls. And I'm about to go and work over there, too... |

Well I expect the Entertainment industry in Japan to be hurt by this recession, and don't worry, I share the same concern with you when it comes to solving Japan's economic problem, so I have a low optimism on Japan's economy, and it looks pretty grim. You may want to re-consider your plan job trip to Japan. |

I had been thinking about wanting to go to Japan as well, but the recession may be something to wait out. Related to the topic though, with everything that is going on with politics these days I'm not sure whether to take these guys seriously or not.

Since the caucus includes Diet members who agree with governmental regulations on expression (for example, the special advisor Kawamura Takeo and the chief secretary Hase Hiroshi), people related to anime, manga and games probably remain, at least to some extent, dubious of which way the group will go regarding that matter. (According to mangaka Akamatsu Ken, he has lobbied and a few Diet members who don't agree with governmental regulations on expression could enter the caucus, though.) So, the paragraph about the Youth Healthy Development Ordinance can be related to the news about the caucus in question from this viewpoint. This caucus is needed especially with the Olympics coming, we don't another Bill 156, keeping creativity as unabated by censors as possible is very important especially in games as the Western market is being tainted by extremist left views and this is leaving Japan (and other Eastern nations like South Korea) becoming the last frontiers for creativity.

Regarding the economy, the money printing is foolish and it destroys any Japanese who tries to save money or save for future invesment, and bond holders (most of whom are Japanese citizens who have their reitrement savings in bonds)... but you might as well take advantage of their inflation. The yen is dropping even further so importing anime goods is cheaper. Also, while most of the middle class is being hurt from currency debasement, lots of the printed money is flowing into stocks. That means there's an opportunity to short overvalued Japanese companies. The key is timing it right for when it'll drop.
S.Korea already has something a lot worse than Bill 156 as even mild depictions are criminalized there. People have been arrested for Mirai Nikki (Future Diary) |

That's terrible and Mirai Nikki is mostly psychological horror and violence unlike something like Kodomo no Jikan. If Mirai Nikki can get you arrested in SK think of something like Cross Ange or Berserk. |
