I can understand his view and his thought on what happened in the UK. I hope the UK can probably take a 2nd look at this case without prejudice.

Throwing people in prison over drawings and animation is sad and laughable. Laws should be passed that protect humans, property, and victims, they shouldn't be passed to protect the rights of non-existant children. Any person or country that supports such regulation are a bigger threat to society than what they are trying to censor.

Laws against fiction such as loli/shota will only have 1 of 2 results depending on the person and assuming the person is also attracted to human kids, not just anime kids:

1) The pedophile will turn to real child porn since it legally makes no difference anymore if it's real or fake.

2) The pedophiles will start abusing actual children since, regardless of what he does(look at images or abuse kids), he'll go to jail anyway.

Ignoring the fact that drawings don't need legal protection, the fact that fake child porn is an excellent (should be legal) alternative to actual child porn should be a great reason not to ban it.

If we look at the facts of the matter, what studies on fictional child porn that exist all points to one thing: IT DOESN'T HAVE A NEGITIVE IMPACT ON SOCIETY NOR DOES IT LEAD TO THE ABUSE OF ACTUAL CHILDREN! The most recent study was done either earlier this year or last year and it was posted here on ANN about the government in Denmark ordering a study on the effects of virtual child porn. That study found no link to suggest VCP increases the rate of child sexual abuse.

Regardless if you want to view this topic from a factual stand point or a common sense stand point, both standpoints point to the fact that the UK throwing a man in prison over drawings is beyond unreasonable.

I hope Ken is wrong about Japan and that they won't eventually follow the UK and regulate such material. It would be a dumb move on Japan's part.

Don't give up, Ken! Freedom isn't something to be so easily surrendered!

Pedophilia in entertainment is usually in poor taste, but it's not against the law. I'd even argue it shouldn't be against the law because as long as no one has their rights or safety harmed by something why ban it? Do you think the novel "Lolita" should be banned because it's about pedophilia? That opens up a very slippery slope. No one likes pedophiles, but if we make pedophilia into a thought crime, (and yes, that's what banning media like "Lolita" is, a thought crime) you open up a pandora's box for banning other things that society thinks should be banned because it's "wrong" or "disgusting".
Remember the saying "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." Freedom of expression is one of the most fundamental human rights and protecting that means protecting things that we might find unsavory.

The CBLDF also spoke out against what happened in Britain.

With Australia's secret internet blacklists, Canadian customs, and Britain now, and with America in the middle it is only a matter of time. Great Britain and its former crown colonies should be no surprise. They are simply not safe places to watch anime or read manga, considering the Japanese penchant for young characters.

It will be sad and interesting to see what the Supreme Court would say on the matter for a strictly manga or anime case.

i imagine him in prison, everyone around him like "so what you in for" with the normal responses "murder, theft, rape, assault ect" then he casually joins in "oh i had some drawings the courts didn't like... yes fictional character got me arrested... so laughable.

makes me ashamed to be from this horrible excuse of a country if im honest.

Whatever. I most certainly will not be losing a wink of sleep over the fate of some perverts who get their rocks off drawing naked children.

As an anime fan, though, I DO support these laws, because frankly I'm sick of the general public thinking anime = "perverted drawings" or other disgusting things.

Hey video game went through this (remember the supreme court struck down any video game legislation), and I think anime and manga can survive too. Beside our 1st amendment is better then UK's freedom of speech and even Australia's freedom of speech. Australia's internet blacklists is drawing fire from a lot of people in that country. The differences is that US can tell the difference unlike UK. I'm sure the UK (if they have a supreme Court) can take a 2nd look into this case.

If there's anything these cases taught me. It's to never admit guilt to anything even if they give you a shorter sentence. Fight the charge and eventually they'll drop it. If you're guilty in the U.S. you'll be registered as sex offender and seeing as there's no tiers for this you'll be under the same name as a real child molester and/or rapist. Good luck trying to get a job with that on your head for the rest of your life (also likely a felony). My advice if you're in this situation stay strong and they'll drop the charge then you can have your arrest record expunged.

Glad to know you'd sell your fellow fans out for limited public acceptance. Don't worry, violent cartoons will be next on the ban list.

I do not consider people who enjoy pictures of naked little kids to be "fellow fans".

I also feel it is important to establish my moral superiority to these degenerates, and will pay no heed to the fact that I'm also announcing to the world I'm comfortable with locking fellow human beings in a cage because they're kind of gross.

I see not why people care for public acceptance/image, 90% of the UK don't know what anime is, and the ones who can "identify" anime only think stuff like Pokemon or Naruto.
I don't care if they think i watch that or the handful who think it's perverted crap think im watching porn i still don't care, i like what i do, don't give a damn what others think... especially them who have no knowledge of anything.
Besides, from my knowledge, over here the only ones who I ever hear mention it's perverted stuff is online, never met anyone in person who has said that...
(i used the UK not because the case in topic just... i sadly live here so yeah)...

Either way, why turn your back on fellow fans for public image? Regardless if some of them fans have tastes you don't approve of?
each to their own, i don't judge from one to the next.
just saying..

Um, I'm 100% okay with locking pedophiles in a cage.

I don't see aversion to child porn as moral superiority. More like the minimum necessary morality to be considered a civilized human being.
