Slice of life huh? Two words. Kiyohiko Azuma
Yotsuba& is cute and funny, following a slightly wierd five year old girl, and her discovery of numerous things from shopping to cicadas. I'm a cynical 18 year old boy and even i find this story adorable. Azumanga Daioh is by the same person, only in 4 panel comic form. That one is quite amusing (and probably one of the more famous series out there now) Edit. Just found Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō but it doesn't appear to be in English. |

Those you've mentioned are NOT exactly "slice of life" but rather typical shojo romance (former two ran in Ribon, the third in LaLa). You might want to start with licensed (I assume you live in North America) titles that had been serialized in those two magazines.
I wouldn't recommend it to novice manga fans, especially to those who are not even certain which genre s/he is actually looking for. |

I would suggest Ouran High School Host Club if you are looking to laugh a whole lot. It has nice art and a great story line. Characters that you like right off the bat.
Also, I would suggest Doubt or Happy Hustle High if you are looking for something that has romance in it, but isn't a magical girl series. Both are short reads (5 or 6 volumes each), and are decent stories. Perhaps you might enjoy Zodiac PI. It's a 4 volume series, that seems like it might be a magical girl series, but her "transformation" and "powers" are easy to over look in the course of the story. Land of the Blindfolded is another story where the main characters have "powers", but I would really call it magical, and does provide some romance to the story. This series has a good plot as well. If you are looking for something a little more serious, then I suggest Hot Gimmick. The art isn't really along the lines of the other series that you have mentioned, but I don't think the story would have been as believeable if the main character was all cute looking like Nina from Ultra Maniac. There is romance, but it is twisted. It's a good read, but a longer series at 12 volumes. |

For pure 'slice of life' with no magic or sci-fi elements, you just can't beat Genshiken

if you like cats, a very good slice-of -life manga(most of the time , anywyays) is Whats Michael. the reason i say "most of the time" is that some chapters have the cats as humans in human situations. Like Shugotenshi said as well, Genshiken is awesome too.

If you can find scanlations of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou online(I can't say where because of the rules). I'd really recommend it is indeed a true slice of life manga. Sadly its NOT been licensed here in the USA.

NANA is a pretty good slice-of-life manga and show, so is Someday's Dreamer which is very laid back. You can find Yokohama in english if you look around, Yokohama is very slow but very nice and refreshing. My personal favorite slice of life manga is a very underrated and very hard to find manga called Crossroads, you can read up on it at its english website, which has a cool little promo vid with nice music: http://www.gocomi.com/index.php?module=manga&sub=series_detail&s_id=3 I assure you that it's an extremely well done story with great and fresh characters and loveable plot elements, it may look like a tamer Koi Kaze but it's more like a laid back, hip Marmalade Boy.

NANA is completely not slice of life. I know this, because I actually like it Seriously though, it's not. At all. That said, I still would go with a recommendation to check it out, because it's one of my all-time favourite series, but to call it a slice of life is very misleading. |

Slice of life if everyone in your life is a rock star. LOL. It is a great series though. |

I recommend Genshiken, its funny, has a lot of history in it, and has great characters.
It might be a little bit too much for some people, as it talks about porn games and stuff like that a lot. Just be warned. |
