A.I. Love You (manga) |
Good |
This story was typical Ken Akamatsu, and believe me that I say that is a good thing. A story that is funny, and is touching at just the right times. His art is a little crude in this one which makes me believe it is an earlier work of his. Although, I am not positive on that one. It is definitely worth picking up if you are a fan of the author. |
AAA (manga) |
Decent |
It had a good premise, but the story lacked depth. The characters weren't very developed, and the ending was very rushed. It may have been better if it had two more volumes. |
Absolute Boyfriend (manga) |

Alice 19th (manga) |
Good |
I enjoyed this series. It was the second Yuu Watase I had read, and although I loved Imadoki, this title did not wow me like Imadoki did. It could be because I read most of it while taking long plane rides to Los Angeles and back to Upstate Ny. I felt like it was a good story, but the back story as to where their abilities came from, and why they had them was always a little confusing to me, and I wish that she had gone into more detail about it. But it was a good read, and one I would definitely consider rereading. |

Black Bird (manga) |
Very good |
The story was excellent. I really enjoyed the characters. However, my biggest complaint comes in the ending. I feel it was rushed. Another two or three chapters would have made it better in my opinion. |
DearS (manga) |
Good |
I think what sold this title for me was the level of absurdness it had in it. For some reason, it worked. It made me laugh out loud a number of times which makes very enjoyable. |
Doubt!! (manga by K. Izumi) |
Very good |
I wasn't sure I would like this title when I first picked it up. I had read a summary for the series online, was worried that it was going to be a story about a whiny beautiful girl. While there was some of that in there, there was also a lot of comedy and other drama that made this story a fun read. It is one I will read again and again, and will stay in my manga collection for a long time. |
Faeries' Landing (manhwa) |
Very good |

Forbidden Dance (manga) |
So-so |
I have to be honest. I picked up these and read them because I got them out of the dollar bin at Borders. It wasn't that I didn't like it, but rather I am just not that into dance. I think if someone was a huge fan of dance, then they would like it very much. I also think that the story should have been drawn out more to develop some of the characters more. It sort of felt like a rushed story to me. |
Fruits Basket (manga) |
Masterpiece |
An excellent story with amazing character development. I don't have a single complaint about this title. |
Full House Kiss (manga) |
So-so |
I kept waiting for the story to take off in this one. It never really did. The characters weren't developed. Not even the main characters. I wasn't exactly sad wgen this one ended. |
Full Moon O Sagashite (manga) |
Excellent |
I really liked this title. I wanted to cry in volume one. Laughed through the next few, wanted to cry again by the end. The characters are very likeable and you feel for them. There one or two things that didn't sit well with me at the end, but I might have missed a detail or two that would make these things make sense to me. I will have to reread to be sure, and luckily I like the title enough to where I would want to reread it to find out. |
(The) Gentlemen's Alliance Cross (manga) |
Excellent |
I'm only on the second volume of this series, and there have already been a few twists that I was not expecting. The art is typical Tanemura, which means that it's beautiful. The plot and the character development is excellent. I cannot wait to read the rest of this series! |
Guru Guru Pon-chan (manga) |
Very good |

Hana-Kimi (manga) |

Happy Hustle High (manga) |
Good |
Hanabi (the main character) sold this story. The way that she was developed made you laugh and root for her. Although I would have liked to have seen are more drawn out ending (maybe another chapter or two), but it is a quick enjoyable read a recommend to anyone who like Shojo. |
Honey Mustard (manhwa) |
Very good |
I feel like the author had a good story going on with this title. When I couldn't find anything after volume 4, I did some research and found out that the author in Korea dropped it. It made me sad because it sucks you in. I can only hope that the author picks it up one day and decides to finish it. |
Hot Gimmick (manga) |
Very good |
What a complicated story. You want to cheer for and strangle the main character at the same time. Most of the story seems down to earth, and in many ways is a breath of fresh air. The messy ending for this story suits the story perfectly. As long as you are not looking for a typical happy and roses manga, then I definitely suggest this one. |
Imadoki! Nowadays (manga) |
Very good |
I loved this series. Completely adored it. It was the first by Watase that I had read, and it made me an instant fan. my only real complaint with the title is that it wasn't longer. The story and the characters had good development, but I just did not want to story to end. It was easy to get attached to the characters. |
Kare Kano (manga) |
Excellent |
This title is so good, I don't know where to begin. The basic premise for the story was shed by volume 8 or 9, and matured into a masterpiece that took on a life of it's own. This could have very easily been a 40 volume manga to detail to the point where the story ends. I sort of wish the author had taken that route. So many characters grow and change, and even the most side of characters have a decent amount of development to them. The art is beautiful and grows with the plot. I highly suggest this title. |
Kitchen Princess (manga) |

Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu (manga) |

Land of the Blindfolded (manga) |
Very good |
What I like most about this series is that this series almost seems plausible in real life. While the main characters have special abilities that most do not have, they are not treated like "super powers". The main characters continue to go about their daily lives. There are no villians, and the world does not depend of their abilities. They just help everyday people, and catch flack for it most of the time. If you like slice of life stories, I suggest this one. |
Love Hina (manga) |
Excellent |
What a great title. Comedy and a great plot. Another great example that Ken Akamatsu is a great manga-ka. I know that I have written the word great a lot, but that's the perfect word to describe ths manga. |
Magical × Miracle (manga) |
Very good |
I like this story so far. I thought the premise of a girl looking like an exact twin of a boy was a bit of a stretch, but I figured I would give it a shot anyway. I am glad I did. There wasn't a villian until the third volume of the story, and the big surprises don't start until the fourth volume. Anyone who has stopped reading before volume 4, I suggest going to a bookstore and flip through a little bit of volume 4. I think it will have you back interested. |
Mars (manga) |
Excellent |
What a great story! It was a plot that was full of angst, yet is very touching. At 15 volumes (plus the one side volume) I never felt that the story was dragging in any way. The art is beautiful and yet simple. I would definitely suggest this title to anyone, and it will be one that will read again. |
MeruPuri - The Marchen Prince (manga) |
Decent |
I wish that the author would have drawn this story out more. I don't feel like the characters were very developed, and the back story hadn't been given enough attention. Everything built too quickly in my opinion. Although it wasn't something that I hated. I might go back and read it, but there are other titles I would reread first. |
Metamo Kiss (manga) |
Good |
I was unhappy when I found out that this series is only 3 volumes long. I have read the first two, and I feel like so much more could have been done with the story. It's a great premise, and I feel like the author is cheating it by ending it so soon. However, I won't know for sure until I read the third and final volume. |
Mink (manga) |
Decent |
It's your typical magical girl manga. Lots of cuteness and pretty art. But it was a decent story too. There was a little bit of "what's going to happen" in the final volumes which made this title enjoyable. |
Othello (manga by S. Ikezawa) |
Very good |
I really really liked this story up until the very end. But that's because I selfishly wanted it to end in a way I knew deep down it couldn't. This was a story that I had to just keep reading because it grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go. It had a story line unlike any other manga I have read it and it refreshing in that way, although it was not a happy go lucky story at all. The art was ok and the characters were developed well. Some of the side characters weren't although you didn't feel cheated because they weren't. I recommend this story to anyone and everyone. |
Ouran High School Host Club (manga) |
Excellent |
Great story. Very funny, and serious at times. Great character development. I was sad to see it end. |
Papillon - Hana to Chō (manga by Miwa Ueda) |
Good |
They packed a decent story into a small number of chapters. I would have liked to have seen the story be longer just because I was enjoying what I was reading. |
Peach Girl (manga) |
Excellent |
I'm not sure how to comment on this and Peach Girl change of heart because they are really the same story line. I don't know why it took me so long to pick this title up and start reading it. I am so glad that I finally did. It was long in spots but I enjoyed it overall and would read it again. The art is beautiful and it has an interesting premise. |
Peach Girl: Change of Heart (manga) |
Excellent |
I'm not sure what I can add from the other comment section from above. It was a good shojo, and I think that most shojo fans would like this title. |
Peach Girl: Sae's Story (manga) |
Very good |
|
Phantom Thief Jeanne (manga) |
Excellent |
I absolutely adored this title. Arina Tanemura tells compelling stories, and has beautiful art to back them up. She is quickly becoming my favorite manga-ka. I liked the character development through out the entire story, and her use of religion in the story is very respectfully done. This is definitely a series that I will read over and over again. |
Pichi Pichi Pitch (manga) |
Very good |
|
President Dad (manhwa) |
Very good |
In volume one of this series, you completely think that the story is going to go one way. The plot and characters have little oddities that you figure are standard in the comic book world in which they live in. However, at about volume 3 or so, the story changes to become something completely different from what you expected. It almost becomes a completely different story all together. Which I can see how that would annoy some people reading the series, but I found it to be compelling. The art of this series is pretty too. |
Sailor Moon (manga) |
Masterpiece |
I just absolutely adore this series. Everything about it. It's plot, the art, the character development. The way how, even after 10 years, I am still hoping that Ms. Naoko Takeuchi will decide to add on to it in some way. I must just be biased, but I don't know how anyone cannot like this manga. |
Sugar Sugar Rune (manga) |
Excellent |
|
Tokyo Mew Mew (manga) |
Good |
So many times, I fall into the trap of "If you love Sailor Moon, then you will love ____." This time it was actually true. It's a very cute magical girl series. The characters are cute, and so are the bad guys, but not in an annoying way. I was a little sad that some of the main characters were not very developed. If you are a team to save the world, then I feel that you should feel like you know all of them, which isn't exactly the case in this one. But it's still good, although I would suggest it to girls who are between 10-16 more so than to anyone else. |
Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode (manga) |
Good |
This seems to me like something that the artist wanted to include into the original story line, but couldn't figure out how. I was surpised how much character development was made for the main character in 2 volumes when some of the other Mew Mew weren't as developed after the previous 7. I feel like the pllot lines were compromised in lieu of character development though. All in all though it was a short read that I feel good about. I didn't feel like I wasted my time. |
Ultra Maniac (manga) |
Very good |
I love the zany tone of this manga. I liked that I thought it was a manga that I could predict from the first 10 pages, but while some conclusions were what I expected, the way I got to them were not, and therefore made it an enjoyable read. I wish that the end had been drawn out a little more, making it more like a 6 or 7 book series, but it also might have come off as bad fluff. This is a series that can be read more than once, and I have read it a few times and enjoyed it everytime I have. |
Wedding Peach (manga) |
Decent |
I think if I had been 12-14 years younger than I was when I read this, then I would have liked it a whole lot more. It was a very cute story, with cute characters who had cute weapons, and even cute enemies (IMO). I think that someone who is, say, 12, would really enjoy this series. Unfortuneately I read it when I was 25. I picked it up because it was being sold as "if you love Sailor Moon, then you will love this" story. It wasn't a bad story though. |
Zodiac P.I. (manga) |
Good |
I really liked the idea behind this story. It also had a little subplot going on that was interesting. I was sad that it was a short 4 volumes, and there wasn't much time for character development. This was a story that could have easily been 10 volumes. But if you are looking for something that is over quick and is a decent original idea, then I suggest it. |
