I'm doing a analytical report for a technical writing class on Anime as a form of art. I was wondering if any would have any kind of info that would be helpful.

Yes,because it conveys a thought or emotion to tell a story, the same way films or books do.

Hey that's a really good way to look at it.
Would you have any suggestions on finding info on the subject? |

I assume you're looking for other academic works...
http://corneredangel.com/amwess/ That's about the best collection there is. There aren't too many good (i.e. well-supported) essays on anime/manga yet.. although the field is developing _SLOWLY_. Poke around there; you may be able to find something that supports your ideas. Be warned though; a lot of the stuff there is pure garbage. |

I personally have wrote two analytical papers on anime/manga, one being a persuasive that anime is a form of art for my Creative Writing class. I have also wrote a report on anime's influence in the US with a bit of history and well-referenced guide to several anime. If you are interested, I can send them to you. I got 100s on all of them, which was a daunting task for my AP history teacher...

Anime is as artistic as you hold it to be. If you ask me, it's a lot more artistic than guys barfing paint on a canvas, or putting goldfish in a blender

what about monkeys smearing feces on canvas and selling it for thousands I'd much rather see some beautifully drawn anime pics on display

The sad part is that if the art world would consider those things to be good art, that maybe the good art and anime should be called something else.

The art history departments at some universities (like mine) actually offer classes on anime and manga. I've never taken the class, but I had the prof who teaches it for my 'art of asia' class and she spent a few days at the end of the semester covering "current Japanese art", mainly anime and manga. We discussed it as a form of art; the "art world" is probably not as hostile to accepting animation as a form of art as some of you may think. As Duchamp would argue, what makes something art is the context in which you talk about it. If you talk about something as if it is art then it IS art.
