This came from nowhere! Can't say I'm unhappy though, but I am saddened that it is being censored for the US...

Yeah it's a terrible move, it would've done nicely on Adult Swim with a few edits.

It's a children's show in Japan, so there's no reason for it to be on Adult Swim. Though I think it'd work better on Nick. Either way, it's probably an ego thing for the JP licensors to say that they "conquered" the Disney audience with Doraemon.
Anyway, let's see what Crayon Shin chan has to say about it.

Wow, didn't see that coming. I assume these episodes are taken from the 2005 series?

I'd think so. Besides, why would they start with the 1979 series anyway?

Yes it's for kids but maybe you have never seen the show? kids in Japan are use to seeing nude kids in the bath in what not but in the usa yea no. I'm referring to the nude parts with Shizuka anyway i'm happy to see this coming to NA but erm funny how this came out of no were.

No one's complained about it in Totoro so far. But if the Japanese choose to edit it for our standards, then that's their problem. They clearly don't need the money, so, again, it probably comes down to being able to brag that Doraemon is also "popular in America with Disney fans".

A few questions: Is it going to be a best of sort of thing? Which series are they going with? Is the 26 episodes a test to see if it could be longer or is that it? Regardless, I'm curious to see how this pans out. It's nice to at least finally see some sort of release for this series over here.

I wonder if Doraemon being their 2020 Olympics ambassador had anything to do with this.

Well that clears a lot up. I heard an interview with a voice actor who said he had a small role on Doraemon and it was supposed to air on Disney that day. Naturally I couldn't find any info on a Doremon license until... well, just now.
I'll be sure to check this out though. I wonder who will be the lucky person to voice Doremon himself.
