I am happy Zero-Suit Samus is a stand alone character, I always loved playing as her though Brawl made it a bit a chore to get there with the Final Smash. I also found it very interesting that while watching the video she reminded me a bit of Bayonetta. Especially the move which involved her high heels. I wonder if it's a sign that perhaps Bayonetta might be revealed later on and is a more slower, powered up clone of her? I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Wow. They're holding Smash back until winter for the Wii U and releasing a 3DS version in the summer? Interesting business move. Guess Mario Kart will have to sell the system until winter then.

A Bayonetta reveal would be awesome.
Man, they're really pushing Lizardon/Charizard. Also Frogruto now, which is a bit of an odd choice.
Samus looks a lot sexier. They increased her bust, but will Smash have jiggle physics? That's the important question
Though I gotta say competitive Smash seems like the most boring thing ever. None of the fun and creative items? None of the fun or creative stages, just the most basic horizontal stage ever? None of the fun or creative characters, just the few who can take advantage of said horizontal stage and edgeguard like a cheap jerk? Smash to me separated itself because of the items and stages, which made it not some MLG competitive thing. But eh, to each their own I guess.

Charizard is a huge fan-favorite, as well as a favorite of the staff of Pokemon and Nintendo. If everyone likes him, he's gonna be hyped to the moon and back like a seismic toss. I admit that I'm one of the ones who like him a lot. At least he has his Mega form now, to keep him fresh and interesting.
As for Greninja, he's a ninja, so he's gonna have some interesting Shiek-like moves. Perfect for Smash Bros, if you ask me.
Aaaaaaand for competitive Smash play, it's all skills-based. By minimizing as much random luck as you can, battles become more of a matter of how skilled the players are. The great thing about Smash Bros is that you can customize it for skill-based balance or go all out and have random fun with items and such. There are even competitive item matches out there that require skilled usage of the items that pop up. There are a lot of ways to play, and no one is going to be the same, so there's a lot of fun, no matter who you are.
As for me, I'm pretty happy to do whatever. I find free-items-stage-etc. matches to be just as much fun as heavy competitive matches. They're a different kind of fun, where I can focus and work on half-second button-presses to try and win intense matches, or if I would rather relax, I can just let go and play fun matches without caring about winning. It all depends on my mood.
Either way, considering the development team's attitude on competitive Smash, I'm surprised we got a competitive mode. I'm at least happy they're not just ignoring a huge part of the game. And, of course, I'm also happy that they aren't just sacrificing the enjoyable free-for-all attitude, too. A good balance of both is the best way to get everyone to join in, no matter who they are.
Anyway, I'm a huge Pokemon fan, so I was definitely pleasantly surprised by the new announcements. But to be honest, I was still hoping to hear about the potential second Fire Emblem character...

You could've just chosen to play as her without the smash ball by holding down the 'Z' button on the WiiMote + Nunchuck ('-' on just Wiimote, 'R' on Gamecube controller) beforehand.

My guess is, the Wii version is going to have a more robust single player experience. So it needs more development time.
I'm a bit disappointed that transformations are gone, and especially that Poke Trainer is out for a solo Charzard and Squirtle is out for Greninja.
I wonder if there will be Grass Starter representation in the final product? Sceptile? Meganium?

I doubt it. They can still make more announcements once E3 arrives, and at that time they can finally confirm Palutena!

This won't make some people happy.
There's no Final Destination for competitive play.
Also, a bit ticked that there are no longer transitions between Zelda/Sheik and Samus/Zero Suit Samus, but there are mega evolutions for pokemon. I think Nintendo is favoring pokemon too much for this game. But, who can blame them?

Probably not gonna happen considering that Kojima and Konami refuse to put MGS titles on Nintendo's systems aside from a token, halfhearted effort with the 3DS port of MGS3.

That and they plan to take advantage of the holiday shopping season. Smash 4 is gonna move a lot of consoles.

That was really good Direct.
I'm still waiting for Captain Falcon and hoping for Ike. Other than that, I'm happy with what's going on so far, and I'm not that big of a smash fan.
