^ Agreed, Seven Seas should make a habit of republishing public domain novels with manga-style illustrations.

Also: Anne was a tsundere?

Being Canadian, I of course grew up knowing about Anne. It's a bit jarring to see her drawn in this style, I must admit - but the infamous slate smashing scene is captured rather wonderfully.

I don't feel like there would be enough of a market for the book over here though, since all it would have is random Japanese illustrations.

There's already a manga version of this done by Yumiko Igarashi. I read all three volumes. I love it very much. I'd like to see this version of it, though.

Also, do you realize how many anime characters are inspired by Anne? I could point out a couple leads of recently popular shows, but a few characters from other shows spring to mind as well - one who's actually named after her as well.

This copy of Anne of Green Gables was on the Tsubasa Bunko front page recently and I was going to ignore it since I already own the Aoi Tori Bunko version, but...52 illustrations?

Another Canadian here, but I think Maki Minami's style suits Anne perfectly. Would definitely love to see the rest of the illustrations! Very Happy

This looks lovely and the artstyle really fits Akage no Anne.
Akage no Anne is my 2nd favorite anime of all time and I'm planning to read the novel.

I loved Anne of Green Gables growing up (the novel, that is). I saw the movie waaaay later, and I didn't care as much for the sequels, but I loved Anne's free-spirited ways! The art (so far) seems to really capture that energy. ^^ If it ever got an English treatment, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat.

You sure it's in public domain? The author's estate might still own it.

Interestingly enough, this is only half of the book. Hoping they release the 2nd half, too! The illustrations are adorable.
