Haruhi OST is one of my all time favorites. Partly because of nostalgia from the best summer I had (2006), but its just so relaxing for me

Really hope he gets well soon. The whole monogatari franchise owes a lot to Monaca, their OPs set the tone for most of the series. Haruhi, now Nisekoi and Wake Up Girls! ... hopefully the rest of the staff can fill in for now.

The music he's created has brought joy to a lot of people, me included.

Take time and get fully well Kousaki-san.

This is the 2nd time that he has gone on hiatus in the last 4 years due to health reasons. I do hope he's ok.

I love his work.

Seventh that. He's one of my favorite composers today and he often provides the perfect complement to a scene without being overstated or nondescript. This is the second time he's done this, as noted, and similar to before, it seems come around a time he has done music for a lot of a shows airing around the same time with a few more coming in the next season.

Perhaps he's the serious workaholic type, and I know that he has had his studio colleagues step in with (and for) him since then, but I'd rather see him get his priorities together and take some time to just chill. He needs it with that workload and the variety of styles and compositions he likes to employ.

I swear this has happened with this guy before back in the late 2000's (there's a large gap in his contributions that would seem to confirm this but I can't find any record of a hiatus either) or maybe I'm thinking of someone else. In either case guy's music really doesn't stand out all that much to me other than that he's composed for a surprisingly large number of popular series that I just happen to loathe for whatever reason. Not a particularly big fan of his efforts when it comes to music either finding it notably nondescript and bland (I know what a thing to remember someone for, but somehow that's the mental note I've made to remember this guy by over the years) but of course hope his health improves whatever is wrong with him.

Interesting. I definitely agree with the first part about nothing he does every being overstated, but the second bit about nondescript was the first and pretty much only thing to come to mind when thinking of something...anything to point out about his resume. Maybe I'm just a lot pickier than most people but I really do find his music bland and impersonal. Like there's nothing remotely distinctive or memorable about any of it and it's all just a job for the guy or something rather than an art or style that he's working on and trying make recognizable as his own so that when you hear the name announced you can say, "oh I can envision what this shows music will sound like and how it'll complement the scenes" rather than, "Oh I remember that guy composed for x popular otaku series, but what did that shows music sound like again?"

Ah just noticed this confirmation. I thought so when I saw the picture of the guy and it all started to ring a bell but given how tired I've been over the weekend I wasn't sure if it was just a deja vu situation or not cause I had remember him coming up in a recent discussion with a friend and a news article regarding Captain Earth.

The face looked familiar - he appeared in the Suzumiya Haruhi no Gensou concert in 2009, which was included in the Haruhi Suzumiya blu-ray box set. That concert recording lead me to visiting Japan.

I wish the best for a speedy recovery Satoru Kousaki also.
