Oh wow, so it has gone from 29 million to 30 million?
Better green-light it for the front page! |

Or you're blind, maybe? I for one find it extremely interesting as a comics fan. Comics don't sell a whole lot in the US, so 660k is a big deal and should be talked about. Especially because a few moths ago that number was 500k- so 160k is a pretty big leap. |

Manga market in Japan: 6 billion dollars
Manga market in US: 120 million dollars (2% of Japan's size) Attack on Titan sells 30 million in Japan 2% of 30 million is 600,000 The manga market in the US is not much smaller than the comic book market (domestic), which is around 350 million dollars. |

1 million increase in one week, and I expect it to go up soon since the ratio of Oricon sales to circulation copies is too high. 25261340 30000000 84.20% sold 26002252 (w/ special editions) 30000000 86.67% sold One Piece, for example, doesn't reach 80%, so this is more evidence that Kodansha is still having trouble printing enough copies to meet demand. To get to 80% sold, Kodansha has to print out 1.5m copies more. And with 3 Titans volumes out in 2014, we'll probably see 40m at year's end. |

And that's not news-worthy.
Or at least, it would have been news-worthy had there not just been an article ran about its 29 million print run. This is not hard to understand. If every single time a series gained a million more print copies a news article was made then there would be an inundation of worthless links on the front page. Now I'd have no issue if ANN kept a running tally of and gave a quarterly (or semi-anually or anually) update of all the print runs of the top selling series and the amount of increase there had been since the last update, then I think that would be really cool and quite informational. I love the top yearly manga sales articles (both by volume and series) because it gives a lot of information. I wonder if that sort of info for total copies in print is available. Also, considering that most manga volumes in the US tend to sell like 1-2k per volume, 660k for a series with only about a dozen volumes out is very impressive. |

You act as though it got a whole post. It was just a news brief, combined with a bunch of other briefs in a single post. Btw, it's news worthy for any manga series to increase by a million in ONE WEEK. Especially since it's a manga series with just a dozen volumes. Just try to find another series other than One Piece which did such a feat, preferably recently. Plus, that's not the only factoid in the "brief". The "brief" also includes the anime v1 100k circulation copies as well as the circulation numbers of the manga in four different countries. Especially the circulation number in the USA which as other posters is very impressive. This is the title of the news brief - "Attack on Titan Prints 30 Million in Japan, 660,000 in N. America" |

You know what, ANN always had these small articles/blurbs about some/several manga titles printed copies ranging from the "big" or king titles like OP to ones like Kuroshitsuji, Naruto, Kuroko no Basuke, Toriko, Magi, Chihayafuru, Gakuen no Alice, Kamisama Hajimemashita, or even the long hiatuses "D.Gray-man", etc2...(those are the ones/some that I remember) and nobody never complain before....or probably people not pay any attention before huh....My point is ANN had done these kind of blurbs based on the reported source from Japan (not their own make-up story or some kind of BS like that) long long time before and I don't see any problems with those ones before and it's not like all every freaking manga titles including yaoi, yuri or hentai even got coverage/reported in Japan Oricon, Nikkei or any other official reports in Japan themselves, so I just failed to see what's the problem here. Personally for me, they can post whatever news/small/insignificant articles/blurbs or whatever they want as long as it's credible, just as much as we can just ignore it/not read it if the articles didn't interest us or seems pointless to us.
Or you know what, how about ANN just erase these kinds of blurbs altogether from now on and just post those yearly top sales or whatever the people's complain want it to be or something along those lines....if these kinds of posts are even get complained on, though if it's just my opinion personally.."geez all of you (ANN staffs) can post whatever articles or whatever kinds of silly format or whatever that you deem worth it and has credible source to back it up to be posted in here anyway you wanted". |

That's not usually the case though particularly with higher selling titles in Japan. For instance, 2% of One Piece's 300 million is 6 million. 2% of Naruto's 130 million is 2.6 million. 2% of Fairy Tail's 25 million is 0.5 million. Basically, the higher selling titles are outliers - the higher the sales, the harder to keep up with its 2%. So it can be a surprise when a higher selling title's 2% is kept pace. |

I would find a circulation list interesting, but I don't think there's a weekly, monthly or yearly list for circulation numbers of the top-selling manga. Just Oricon sales, but not circulation numbers, and that's probably cause Oricon just tracks what retailers are selling, not what retailers are buying. Kodansha hasn't even released the circulation number for Bessatsu Shonen Magazine, the monthly magazine Titans is running in but boy, do they like to brag about how much Aria numbers have increased. |

Seriously, if you are not interested in this info, then just scroll down. I for one find it interesting to see how well certain manga sells in certain countries so I see nothing wrong with ANN updating us on it frequently.

Most of the "unheard" manga only sell around 1-3k a volume, more of the well known stuff seem to break 5-10k, and of course then you have the bigger hits that sell 10's of thousands of copies per volumes (your One Piece's, Naruto's, Attack on Titan's, Sailor Moon's, etc.) It's only the stuff that doesn't perform too well that only sells about 2k. |

+1 It's not like it's even a main article, it's only a 'daily brief'. |

Here's an exhaustive report on the comic book market in NA (manga included), but still up to 2012. Their 2013 report should be out in a couple of weeks.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=43773 Manga sales in NA for 2012 is depressing especially compared to previous years. |
