Challenger on Fire is a game show where contestants must do tasks in order to win ¥100000.
In this format, contestants try to name 100 Anime Characters for the money. Guess how far the last challenger got. And try to guess some of the characters they feature. Special guest Apperances by Akira Kamiya and Yuko Miyamura http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjieIHmEcJM |

Heh.. I only got Asuka, Tuxedo Kamen, and RX-78 (well, I said RX-78-2). I fail. That was very cool though, thanks for the link.

Small correction: 100万円 = 1 million yen (100 x 10,000). = approx. 8500 US dollars. - abunai |

Never could get the number stuff correct. Can't they just write it out like the rest of the world? |

Ahh... we're no better. Part of the West counts: "1 million, 1 billion, 1 trillion, 1 quadrillion". Another part counts: "1 million, 1 milliard, 1 billion, 1 billiard" for the very same numbers.
At any rate, it's a pity that final contestant failed when he did, but 88 characters in a row, correctly named, is an impressive achievement. In a way. - abunai |

Wow that's pretty nuts But, that sounds like it would be a fun event at a convention!
It looks like a lot of people got canned due to incorrect spellings and knowing only the first or last name I surely couldn't go very far in that at all... |

Can anyone ID the ones they did show by chance (except for the last one so there are no spoilers)? Like digitalkikka, I could ID maybe the more obvious ones (Gundam, Tuxedo Mask, Cutie Honey)....
I'm surprised that you never I.D. it by the KIKU title translation, Challengers of Fire. |

I have to admit I couldn't I.D. over half the characters shown. But honestly, who doesn't know Zenigata?! Also, I keep thinking I saw The Black Ghost, from Cyborg 009, in there somewhere....

Uhm.. I hardly watch TV anymore working two jobs kinda cuts down on my free time! Wahh.. but I wish I watched more KIKU or NGN (if NGN still exists?) Oh! here's a list of what I tried to translate... Don't highlight it if you want to guess the game on your own! I probably only guessed correct on 5 (haha.. I suck) spoiler[ 1. Cutey Honey - Cutey Honey F 8. Kenshiro - Seikimatsu Kyuseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken 14. Yawara Inokuma - Yawara! 16. Minami Asakura - Touch 20. Tooru Rikiishi - Ashita no Joe 27. Kaibutsu Oujo - Kaibutsu-kun 31. Suguru Kinniku - Kinniku Man 35. Meisuke Nueno - Jigoku Sensei Nube ?. Rei Amuro - Mobile Suit Gundam ?. Ryo Saeba - City Hunter 42. Sally Yumeno - Magical Witch Sally (Mahoutsukai Sarii) 50. Asuka Langley Souryu - Neon Genesis Evangelion 53. Beruku Kattse (Berg Katse) - Kagaku Ninja-tai Gatchaman 60. Tuxedo Kamen - Sailor Moon 64. Rottenmaiyaa (Rottenmeier) - Arupusu no shojo Haiji (Heidi, Girl of the Alps) 68. Meg Kanzaki - Majokko Meguchan 74. Harubaru - Chiisana Baikingu Bikke (Vicke, The Little Viking) 76. Kaede Rukawa - Slam Dunk 81. Gundam RX-78 - Mobile Suit Gundam 86. Osomatsu, Todomatsu, Ichimatsu, Karamatsu, Jyuuyonmatsu Matsuno - Osomatsu-kun 89. ] Edit: Had to fix up one of the names for 86... gah Last edited by Asako on Fri Mar 30, 2007 6:06 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Then there's contradiction as to what each of those numbers is anyway...US billion is something like 1000000000 (thousand million or 10^9) while the correct UK billion is 1000000000000 (million million or 10^12 technically 10^9 is giga) though admittedly even counting over here has become americanized and so only old uptight university professors will insist on 10^12. |

Wow, I'm surprised with what he lost on also, but aside from that, that guy is TOTALLY king of the anime geeks until I see evidence otherwise.
Not counting the two that were named but not shown (based on Asako's list), I got 6 characters including the last one, and another 5 shows, but not the character. (considering how many of those have not seen any kind of US release including fansubs, I'm not that ashamed of that effort) |
