A handful of students (including myself) beganan anime club at our high school about two years ago and it is runing today. I am in my junior yea and I would like it to be a memoriable year. At current, we have 32 members who are in a fairly large room. We have them watch an anime that they picked the month before (we meet monthly) and they watch one half-hour on a 32" TV. After that we do a set of 2-4 raffles giving away whatever the companies gave us (you know those companies that give clubs free stuff but to do that you have to fill out an insane amount of papers asking for this and that and). The dues for the club is somewhere between $3-$5 to pay for.....not really anything. That's it. We asked everyone to submit a drawing (as in pictures) so we can put together a collage of sorts and put it up on a board. I am asking you guys for ideas (that require little to no money) so our club will be slightly more diverse and it really does feel awkward to have little member interaction.

You've most likely thought of this stuff, but...
You could work on creating your own anime. I'm not sure how you would do it though.
You could do a fund raiser so the club can go to a Con.
How about some kind of triva game where you give the winner a shit load of stuff.
hmm, I'll try and think of something else.

Im the president of the university's anime club, and we had some really great ideas, here are a few of them
1)Movie Night
2)End of the year karaoke contest
A)Best
B)Worst
C)Crowd Favorite
3)Group trips to conventions
4)Anime Trivia
A)Winner gets the right to be arrogant and make fun of others who didn’t do as well as he or she did.
5)Debate and Critique after watching the anime
6)Fansub night
7)Lock in
Obviously some of these won't work, but its a start. Another sugestion is coming up with a mystery science theater 3000 type thing when you watch the shows, should get a laugh.

My anime club has been doing a lot of the mystery science thearter 3000 thing.
One problem ours has had is that we don't always get the same computer to show our anime on, so some of the older ones are crap, and completely lag the eps, making them unwatchable. Just the other day we decided to skim though the lagging eps, and we had quite a laugh spending the whole time... goofing off.
We're also looking for things to do. So far we're having a design a mascot contest. *The club is only about a month old*
A karaoke contest sounds great.

watching one show a month is a pretty small chunk of anime, making it weekly and showing more stuff would be alot more appealing. Team up with some good artists and draw things at lunch for a commision. The proceds could go to your anime club to buy a DVD or two then it can be raffled off when the club's done viewing it.
And if those funds you charge aren't used for anything then maybe you should buy DVD's and raffle them when your done showing them because keeping the money for yourself isn't very nice.
When your in a club it tends to be more successful if you think about everyone. Of course Dvd's you buy with your money are for you but you can take them in for showing but DVD's bought with fubding ahouls be raffled right? Of course the leader should enter too!
Is your club only allowed to watch for 30 minuted bacause the school is capping your time, because thats pretty dumb. My gifted english teacher always let me and some friends watch anime until she left which was pretty late so I'm not particularly sure what the problem could be. It was'nt a club just showing off our collections a little

(another farfected idea) How about you make an anime website. That would really get some people involved.
You all need a steady source of income, and I don't think candybars will help. (again) I'll try and think of something.

Ian and his club might not be financialy capable of watching more often, but if, like someone suggested, people bring in their DVDs, you'll have a ton of stuff to watch.

This'll be hella fun. Just get some mulitplayer games that'll allow most members to play all at once. An online game like Socom might be a good start.

My school just started an anime club this year. Of course we watch anime but we came up with some other ideas to do in the club. An idea that we had was to have a manga contest where you or a group of friends create a manga with at least 8 panels. Another idea that we had was to have a video game tournament.

Our club is in a high school, clubs only meet once per month and are only allowed between an hour and an hour and a half. We don't have the time, as moderators and whatnot to meet more than once a month, and if we do it would have to be outside of school, and then no one would show up because we all have lives outside of school and anime. Time is limited and makes anything more than a viewing session difficult to do. Viewings are not a problem, we all have decent collections so we are set there. The manga thing is a no-go. Once again, no time no money no way. Gaming sessions are impossible due to time restrictions and lack of hardware versus members. The website...the thing about that is that we are already hard at work on another site that has little to do with the club (see the www link below).

Wow, sorry you guys definitely have potential but the limited time could definitely be a problem.

Your school only meets once a month? My high school anime club meets every week. We watch the first episode of an anime and if you like it, you can borrow the rest of the subbed episodes. Why not have a fundraiser at your school to raise money for your club?

That is kind of hard. We can't sell anything actually anime related since we live in a middle-sized community where anime is not exactly out in the open. It's existance is known, it's acceptance is not. If we were to sell things, it would have to be something everyone (or the majority) would like and something no one-else as sold (standing out and not to mention I am kind of tired of buying doghnuts). Like, everyone likes caffiene. Most people like sodas. We could sell the 25 cent cans of soda for 35 or 50, which is a good 50-65 cents cheaper than the schools soda, and we would make 10-15 cents on each can. The problem with this is it is competing with the schools own machines and I doubt that would would look good to the faculty.
I really wish we could meet weekly but there is simply nothing I can do about it.

Could you elaborate on the library thing? If you mean it as kind of a rental service then definatly not. A good 22 of the 32 members are unknown to me or my friends, and since this anime thing is not exactly wallet friendly in any way at all, I wouldn't trust strangers with my anime, manga or CD's if it killed me (of course that is an exaggeration but you know what I mean), even if it's $5 for each item.
