This is soooo awesome! I'm going to subscribe to digital cable just for this Anime smile .... and I thought the CRTC was evil after all Twisted Evil

I hope they finally get Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Second Gig, and maybe some more .Hack!

Very Happy

Wow, that is awesome. Honestly, I didn't think the CRTC would go for it. I'm really impressed. This is great news for us north of the border.

I do hope this will mark the growth of Anime in Canada .... although I do wonder, if so many animes are being dubbed in Canada, why doesn't a Canadian company just start licencing them here.

I know there is Nelvana, but that's almost the equivilent to 4Kids ... Sad

Perhaps the Anime Channel will encourage such growth.

I think 2006 was an amazing year for anime in Canada - YTV let up on the editing a little, Razer jumped onto the scene with some GREAT shows, and G4-TechTV listened to all the fan clamor had their license amended (and is already on their third consecutive & stripped series).

I wish the CRTC had made their decision and spilled the beans on this one a little earlier (it's been almost 3 months since the public hearing), but the feelings of utter joy are far outweighing my impatience on this one Razz

I can't wait to hear some more news on this!

This is great news! Anime in Canada is becoming increasingly popular, and we couldn't be happier!
This will only make it easier for anime to attract new fans; what else can you ask for?
Good move, CRTC!

Can't wait to talk more about whats on at the Anime Channel,

That's great!

But it remains to know when this channel will start, which company will carry it and what titles will be part of the line-up. I just can't wait to know.

I guess we will all have to bug YTV for more information...

xD ... you guys should sign up for their randomly updates Anime News Bulletin, I'm sure they'll start putting up information regarding their new shows.

Haha ... ANN still didn't report (unless its not newsworthy) that YTV will be airing Gundam Seed Destiny in March.

Great news Smile To be honest I though we'd have to wait a lot longer to get the results, I'm really glad it's approved already. Now we just need it up and running already, widely available (*cough*West Coast *cough*), with wide selection of anime, preferably both dubs and subs, and can I have it in red please. That's not too much to ask, is it?

I wouldn't mind some Live Action Japanese films as well, Train Man, Shinobi, and tons more ... I mean I hope they don't stick to the .... "If its not in English, then screw it" ideology.

But since their channel is targeted towards 18+, I'm very sure we'll be seeing more read, and perhaps if they re-air Ghost in the Shell, maybe we'll see that spoiler["fcuk"] in the last episode that was previousely cut off Wink

But since it is targeted for 18+, I'd laugh out loud if they got some Yaoi, or hardcore anime Twisted Evil

This is great news but this might be too much anime for me. I'm already a subscriber to The Anime Network and sometimes there just isn't enough time to watch everything. If Canada gets the Funimation Channel, then it will really compound on things.

Regardless of my own issues, this is great news, especially those who aren't able to watch anime regularly. Let's just hope the channel lasts.

I suspect it could appear about the same time as Teletoon Retro, which could be in the fall. I don't think it would take them long to put the channel together considering they have rights on many shows already.

There's no way the FUNimation Channel will ever come to Canada. it's a miracle that we're even getting this, and it's probably better that we only have one run by a major media company rather than multiple small channels owned by squabbling smaller anime companies.

Well I hope it's Japan-related documentaries and movies and such Smile There's probably some clause that says that certain amount of programming needs to be domestic productions, so that's probably what that'll be.
