Well, I guess you knew this was coming sooner or later. I guess this is how things are now. Turn a manga into a decent anime and then into a semi-decent live action movie.
Well, I guess with stuff like the Matrix and what not, let's take on something that has that premise written all over it long before the 'Matrix'. We'll see. I'm sure the directors will have a ball using those types of special effects. It's a virtual world. It could work.

Well the anime that helped sparked one of the biggest movie (Matrix) now has a possibility of being made into a live action movie. But then again this is still just for negotiations on if a studio wants to make a Live action movie. I mean Monster still being made and with little to no progress, but then again GITS has a pretty big fan base in the United States.
Anyway I hope that Production I.G. is able to make a deal with a studio that is committed to making a great movie, that all that really matters.

I sense one of the most jaw-dropping action films is about to be made. I can't wait to see how they do the Tachikomas.

Ghost in the Shell actually would do good as a Live-Action film with what all goes on in it. I'm looking forward to this an hope it does happen. Said hope because it's still under negotiations.

What's out there now should be good enough!! What is so wrong with anime that Hollywood feels GITS should be made into live action? Leave it alone, please. OMG!! Uwe Boll!!

I sense another proposed Hollywood live-action anime project that will never ever reach any substantial stage of development but about which the grist mill will spam Internet forums with dozens of bogus cast lists.

Hmmm, doesn't seem like Hollywood is proposing this, Production IG is... but depending on the director, some "old stuff" has made a decent/great comeback ("Casino Royale" with a relatively unknown Daniel Craig comes to mind)... so this could be mediocre, or could be pretty good!... i'd definitely be interested in who'd be cast for the Major... lol, Angelina Jolie again?... a purple-haired Jeri Ryan? lol... not to mention the rest of Section 9...

Just to split hairs, I didn't mean "proposed by a Hollywood studio", I know it wasn't, I just meant "proposed to be a major Hollywood movie" regardless of who is making the proposal.

I agree completely. I hope and pray that the movie studios will own up and make a true adaptation of the series, or at least stay true to the characters. But like all comic book movies and video game movies, it will probably suck.
Who would play the major??? She will have to be Oriental, but I can see them try and sneak in Angelina Jolie or someone else like that.
I guess we will wait and see.

I think there is a very big chance that this will be complete crap on the Ultraviolet/Aeon Flux level.

I'm scared. Very, very scared. Hollywood, please don't screw with my beloved GITS!
My only glimmer of hope is that maybe, maybe Production IG will go so far as to control a large amount of the visual style, casting, etc. In reality, I'm sure the language barrier would be a huge obstical in IG having much involvement. Even if it weren't an issue, I still don't see them doing much more than picking a studio and forking over the IP, simply because Hollywood is Hollywood.
Edit- I think it's time to club Michael Bay over the head and leave him tied up in the cellar until Production IG makes their choice.

Exactly how many American live-action versions of anime have their been? It seems like not many (if any) have gotten off the ground. I know Speed Racer and Afro Samurai are closer to being made, but others like Battle Angel and Eva have been put on the back burner for a while.
I am curious about how the Tachikomas would look...

This could turn out interesting, but it could be a total disaster. We need more of the GITS anime not, Live-Action.
