I've always had this conversation with my bro when we watch the same anime sometimes. What are the moments in anime that you consider classic? It could be anything from a funny scene, to a sad scene, to just a scene where you believe is amazing. Can be anywhere to a couple of seconds to a couple of episodes. A couple of mine ---

Gankustsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo - The scene where the dual between the Count and "Albert" happens spoiler[and you figure out that it was actually Franz and he was killed.] I cried my eyes out...not really, but it was pretty sad.

Cowboy Bebop - Two of them in this one. The scene where spoiler[Julia gets killed, after you only just met her.] and the ending where most of you should know what happens. It wouldn't have been a classic moment if he didn't sayspoiler["Bang."].

Honey and Clover - The episode in which spoiler[Takemoto travels all the way to the tip of Japan, and there's nothing there.] Actually, those last like 4 episodes where just amazing.

Samurai Champloo - The scene in the episode where Mugen meets those pirates from his past, where you think that Mugen is going to say something but spoiler[he just kills that pirate and leaves the girl without saying anything]. It's a scene that I can't really remember, so correct me if I'm wrong about what happened. Also the last for episodes were amazing, though spoiler[Jin should have died.]

and lastly, my favorite classic anime ---

NGE, and EoE - In NGE the episode where Asuka spoiler[kisses Shinji "to kill time". It affected me even more after I saw the director's cut of one of the episodes and you realize she wasn't really gargling her mouth. And she looked a little sad.]

EoE........WAY TOO MANY! So lets see. spoiler[The "That is an adult kiss part," and where Misato died shortly after. The "Inaudible" line in which Gendo says something you can't understand, and Akagi says "Liar."] Last but not least is the moment with all the different explanations - spoiler[In the end where Shinji starts to strangle Asuka, and then Asuka touches his face, and says "Kimochi Warui."] Gah! What was the true meaning of that. Man, I wish there was some kind of sequel, but there probably won't.

Edit - How could I forget these ---

Martian Successor: Nadessico - The scene where Gai Daigoji spoiler[gets shot and killed]. Not much to explain there.

Fullmetal Alchemist - The entire episode 25. The only anime to make me cry while watching, hopefully the last. spoiler[The entire episode, in which Hughes figures out that the military is being infiltrated by...something, only to get killed. Two quotes really made me cry histerically - "I hope you will forigve me, but I have a wife and kid waiting back home," and then you see Envy as his wife and she fires a gun at him. I can't forget the funeral where his daughter keeps sayng "Why? Why?" Lastly, when Mustang stares into a perfectly clear sky and says "It's going to rain today."] That was really, really, really good.

Wow, you've gotten a lot of the best ones already.

Azumanga Daioh: spoiler[The episode of the first (or second, can't remember exactly) sports fest, where Osaka and Chiyo were talking about the weather. Osaka takes off her shoes and kicks it into the air to see which side it lands on so they can predict the weather. The shoe lands on a truck driving by and gets carries away. The look on Osaka and Chiyo's faces were priceless.] There are a lot of moments in AzuDai that I consider classics, but that one stood out the most.

Paradise Kiss: The last episode where spoiler[Caroline receives the package from George and finds the closet full of stuff in storage just for her. Quite a way for him to say that he loves her.]

Honey & Clover: Lots of moments in this one too. Near the end of the second season, where spoiler[the awesome artist girl who's name I've forgotten asks her uncle to give his life to her. I was pretty sure that she'd choose him, but I didn't expect her to do it in such a powerful way.]

Ergo Proxy: The last few seconds of the show, with spoiler[Vincent Law standing on the ruins, wind blowing his hair to the side and in an almost evil tone, say "I am Ergo Proxy. I am the emissary of death."] What a way to end a great series.

Gankustuou: The scene of spoiler[Haydee entering the opera house showing off her dress.] This scene was stunningly beautiful. I wished all anime had this kind of art.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot this one. One of the first episodes of Azumanga Daioh where a classmate asks Kimura spoiler[why he became a teacher. Without missing a beat he screams out "Cause I like high school girls, that's why!"] I applaud his honesty.

Just the entire last episode of Elfen Lied... soo many epic scenes and heart wrenching moments.

Runner-up: Last episode of Air TV when spoiler[Misuzi dies going towards her mom and everyone was crying.]

I have soo many other scenes but those are the two that instantly popped out at me.

FLCL: where Haruko says "Vacation, Alianation, Animation, Japanimation, Manga, Konga, Naked Lunch, Hawaiian Punch, Fruity Juicy, ITS NOT FUNNY IM GONNA KILL YOU!"

I hadn't laughed that hard in a long, long time when I first heard that. It pretty much sums up the chaos and the hilariousness of the show.

Ahh. How could I forget FLCL. The entire series was a classic. A huge classic. Although, not the greatest of series, amazing nonetheless. The most classic moment was spoiler[that kiss scene in the last episode]. It was just so halarious, but yet so different, you know what I mean?

The favorite scene of mine from Azumanga Daioh is where they are talking about the beach trip and Ms. Yukari's driving. It's very obvious poor Chiyo-chan developed PTSD from that! Laughing

But the one scene that always sticks in my mind is from Ceres when Yuhi realizes that spoiler[Chidori is dead. His scream of anguish is just sooo heartbreaking. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad I cry every time I see it. The Japanese VA was just stupendous in doing that scene.]

Agreed! I love that scene, instantly a classic.

Hmm, not all "classic", but memorable for me..

Dragon Ball, Right after the world tournament, spoiler[Goku goes back to find Krillin dead.] It was one of the most memorable and hard hitting, to me, moments in DB. I still remember when I first saw it my mouth just hung open for a while and couldn't wait to the next episode to see if it really was true.

DBZ, Goku finally spoiler[goes supersayan when he's fighting Frieza]. It was one of those moments that they kept teasing for so many episodes and then it finally happened.

Elfen Lied, when Kouta met spoiler[Lucy when she was not in her Nyu persona] for the first time. This is another one that I just knew was gonna happen so I didn't know what was going to happen when it finally came.

Farewell Space Battleship Yamato, the last 15 minutes or so. spoiler[From the point Kodai makes the decision, through when he carries Yuki to the captain's chair right through the closing scene as the Yamato goes off and you just see the explosion in the distance.] This is just a moment that left me in stunned silence for quite a while, I couldn't believe it, or didn't want to believe it.

Full Metal Panic TSR. There are a lot of memorable moments in all FMP for me, but the scene where spoiler[Kaname is giving Sousuke a haircut and he falls asleep completely at peace] is my favorite. It is just such a pretty quiet and... well it was unexpected, but you saw it coming, one of those things.

Last Exile When spoiler[Claus comes to the last spot changing vanships and he gets to his own with Lavie finally waiting for him and they go into the grand stream together.] That was a moment that I would've expected they may or may not show in the closing sequence or hint that it happened later, but to actually have this long awaited promise incorporated into a crucial part of the story made it very memorable.

Millennium Actress, the closing sequence. This is where you see everything that has developed come to a close and yet also, in a certain way, unravel all over again. It was just beautiful.

Ranma. No I'm not going to start writing everything that is memorable to me from this show, I've already written too much for one post so I'll just say my two favorite moments. In a non-canon Christmas episode, actually episode 13 from season 6, at the beginning of the episode Ranma and Akane are Christmas shopping and Akane starts randomly naming all the things that she'd like. And then Ranma disappears on her, but near the end she finally finds him and spoiler[it turns out he got her everything she wanted and, of course, it starts to snow as she clutches her gifts with a very warm smile. ] I'm a sucker for Ranma and Akane moments.

My other favorite from Ranma is at the end of episode 15 of season 6. Akane has been at the hospital with a broken leg and Ranma has been avoiding visiting her because it was his fault. At the end spoiler[when she is getting out he is waiting for her outside with a giant sign apologizing. ] Ahhhhh!

Samurai Champloo. Near the end spoiler[right after both Mugen and Jin have finished their opponents t they're nearly dead and can barely stand, but they try to finally fish the business between them, so they force themselves up and when their swords clash they break. ] At that moment I just said, "Wow." I didn't really know what to expect from the development but when that happened I finally let a sight of relief.

Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuioku Hen. When spoiler[Kenshin kills Tomoe. ] I still get shills when I think of this moment. It was just so strong after the story develops enough to let you see the whole picture and it comes to this.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. When spoiler[the world doesn't change. ] This series was so unpredictable that this part, which even though I saw it coming, I still didn't know what to expect from it, especially with the sequence leading up to it.

Ok, I'll stop there, although I'd like to keep going I'll just wait to see what others post too. So far I alike a lot of the ones already mentioned by others.

Some of the Classical Moments in Anime History to me were:

In Sailor Moon whenspoiler[ Poor Nephlite Died in Molly's arms in the first season when he was killed by Zoizite's minion's]

In Naruto spoiler[ When Haku died right next to Zabuza]

in Tokyo Mew Mew spoiler[ When Kishuu attempted to protect Ichigo in episode 51 and gets killed by Deep Blue dying in Ichigo's arms]

The Ending to Chrono Crusade spoiler[Where Chrono and Rossette sadly died at the end]

Episode 13 of .Hack//Roots when spoiler[ when Shino gets Pked by tri-edge and dies in haseo's arms][/spoiler]

in Ultimate Muscle(known as Kinnikuman Nesei in the japanese version) when spoiler[ in episode 39: for Meat's Sake, when Meat learns the truth about his parents from lord minch and before minch can tell a secrect about Bone cold's father, Bone cold kills mitch with his sharp bone cold blade right in the chest]

Yeah, I'm pretty much an Emotional Guy, I thought these were some of the best classical moments.[/b]

Utena: when Nanami got her Sebastian Dior -or Cowstian as it was revealed later on- cowbell and was the laughing stock of the entire school behind her back while she was under the impression that everyone was actually stunned and envious of her expensive 'accesory'.

Another one is when spoiler[Utena was in Anthy's body and was dragged by Saionji to a secluded room and she was under the wrong impression as he began to unbutton his shirt until he revealed the exchange diary that he had been keeping with Anthy.]

Ouran Host Club: spoiler[when the host members -except Mori- cross-dressed to persuade Haruhi to stay with them and not transfer to Roberia like they were thinking, beside the cowbell episode from Utena, that scene was the funniest shit that I've ever seen in anime.]

Evangelion: spoiler[when unit 01's dummy plug was activated and went berserk on the one that Touji was in and then Shinji learning that his friend was the pilot.]

The ending of Tylor -seriously, this was the best ending that I've ever seen in anime, spoiler[Tylor and Yuriko had a moment like I was hoping to and we got a glimpse of what everyone could be doing if they ever quit the military before they rushed to join him again.]

DBZ: when Gokou tried to bribe the old Kaoishin with taking nude pics of a hot chick that he knew -it was altered in the FUNimation dub- and Bejiita was there behind him and understood to whom he was referring to, his reaction was priceless Anime hyper

Actually I don't think "Animation" was in there, but the rest was definately one of my favorite quotes from an anime. (It was my G4 signature.)

The ending of The End of Evangelion when Asuka says spoiler[how disgusting]

The part in FlCl spoiler[when Naota kisses Haruka and says, "I love you."]

One of the most dividing endings in anime Berserk whenspoiler[Griffith is raping Casca as Guts looks on helpless]

When Van finally starts kicking Allen's ass in Escaflowne, I was pumping my fist like a mad-man.

The endings to both Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in our Early Days. Shinkai is a genius.

spoiler[When the Count gets crushed in the end of Castle of Cagliostro].

Cowboy Bebop, that ending still makes me cry.

Every single time Kenshiro kills a man in Fist of the North Star.

===

Tenchi meeting Ryoko for the first time. Quite interesting when characters first meet try to kill each other at the start... well, Ryoko trying to kill Tenchi anyways.

Any nude magical girl transformation. Particularly the Sailor Scouts. Pure hotness. Twisted Evil

Over 9000!!!!

he Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Anything from this series... especially from Haruhi grabbing the Computer President's hand to Mikuru's boobs to Kyon kissing Haruhi in a "dream". Laughing Twisted Evil

Azumanga Daioh. Osaka holding that knife. Laughing

It would be better If you mention the show you are adding a spoiler before the spoiler tag. I thought I was going to read a spoiler for Voices of a Distant Star or The Place Promised in our Early Days, and instead there is a giant spoiler for The Castle of Cagliostro. That's not very nice, what if someone hasn't seen it.

@ KyuuA4, Spoiler tag the Cowboy Bebop part.

Another memorable moment, funny memorable for me, was in DBZ when Goku comes back spoiler[from the dead for one day] to compete in the tournament. The director is explaining that there are 16 spots available and the returning champion is automatically in so he tells them to "to the math." Cuts to another scene then back and Goku is still stuck saying, " 16 minus 1..." Shows what happens when you spend all your time training or fighting and never study.

Ya, you get married to babe who's father is rich beyond belief, become friends with the daughter and future owner of one of, if not the, richest companies in the world and become so strong that you can destroy a planet by sneezing the wrong way. Studying beats that any day.

I'm going to go punch along into 20 evenly cut pieces now...

A lot of people have already covered moments I would choose, but a lot of them aren't really old enough to be considered "classic moments". They don't need to be in "classics" to be classic moments, but they should at least be in anime that have been in consideration for several years.

Here's one that falls through the cracks in today's modern anime fandom - something that's both IN a classic and IS classic:

Space Battleship Yamato: Farewell Yamato - spoiler[When Susumu Kodai, the last left on the Yamato after the others have abandoned for him to suicide attack the enemy base, cradles the dead body of his love Yuki Mori and sees the crew of the Yamato with him in spirit, both dead members and living ones. Then he says, "This will be our wedding." I teared up.]
