I just picked up one of these from a Suncoast. I noticed that there seem to possibly be two variants of this product...2 of the boxes I saw had something bouncing/rattling/rolling around inside, and 3 of them didn't. Furthermore, the boxes that didn't rattle have a slightly darker print tone than the ones that do. I bought one of the boxes that didn't rattle. When I got home and opened it, it was just a box and the Fate/Stay Night Vol 1 DVD, nothing else. Boo.
Do some of these boxes have something extra inside? What's rattling around inside those other boxes? |

Are you sure it wasn't just the sound of the DVD being loose from the holder? Every product specification I look at doesn't say anything about any kind of extra. I got my box in yesterday (rattle free) and there's nothing in it other than the first volume and some cardboard filler for the empty space.

I do'nt know about that set, but I know that last time I bought the noisy set to see why it rattled, the DVD case was broken. It just had the circular DVD holder batting around in there, and I could never fix it. Lol, assume you got the best of that deal.

Probabally just that the disc had come loose as people have already stated. It's a common problem when dealing with artbox and boxset/collection releases and something you have to be cautious of before buying. Otherwise you might end up with a scratched-up disc that won't play and lots of wasted time and gas money as you drive back to return it. Whenever I find them I report them to the nearest employee so he can take them off the shelf. Mine arrived last week safe and sound through the mail.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
A few more places put out this title today (Best Buy) so I got to look at a bunch more boxes. As before, the same store had boxes of 2 different print tones (one is lighter, one is darker/redder/purpler) but there were 2 boxes of the light print tone that DIDN'T have anything rattling around inside. So it was only coincidence before, I guess. Must have just been that the DVD or something else was broken and rolling around inside of those other boxes, as you guys said. Some of the earlier product specifications I saw at various places in the net had seemed to indicate that the Fate/Stay soundtrack CD was going to be included in the boxset (wishful thinking...but it did happen with Shana and Ergo Proxy recently, no box though for those but same price as a boxset). So that was my greatest suspicion. Also a few other places had seemed to suggest a pencilboard or something was inside, also, but the info was all sort of iffy and turned out to be untrue in the end, it seems. If you check amazon.com right now it still says that the boxset is a 2-disc package, that's one of the several sources of misinformation out there. I should throw up a review/comment there to tell people. Another weird little thing though, this time all the light-colored unrattling boxes also had the cardboard space-filler insert put into the box upside-down, lol. That was never the case with all the other boxes I saw. Production batch 3, maybe? Lol. But they all came out at the same time, mixed up in the same stores, weird. |

There's an artbox for Ergo Proxy, I have it, it has volume 1 and bonus disc full of extras. It's pretty nice. The F/SN box on the other hand has almost no extras just like Tsukihime.

I have both Fate/Stay Night and Ergo Proxy artbox and Ergo Proxy has an actual extra disc. Fate just has volume one with the box....nothing out of this world.
Best Buy (well at least according to the rep I spoke with in store) told me that Best Buy wasn't going to have the artbox for sale. But if you read here, you'll see that you get the OST #2 and a chance at some artwork....but no box. Personally I like the box since you do get that bonus extra disc. Can anyone confirm Ergo Proxy artboxes at their stores (BB) I've been to two different stores that have said the same thing. Yeah Geneon releases have been in a kind of chaotic disarray the last few months.
I knew that there was a boxset for Ergo Proxy, I just meant that the CD/DVD combo pack did not come with the box. Local Best Buys here in Hawaii DO have the Ergo Proxy boxset. They also have the CD/DVD combo pack. They have lots of both. I did not check if the CD included is the OST2 or OST1, I wasn't aware of that issue. I haven't bought Ergy Proxy, only Shana and Fate Stay Night. It is odd because I believe the Best Buy website only lists the Ergo Proxy Vol 1 single DVD by itself...no boxset...no combo pack. Also it is odd that the CD/DVD combo pack was Best Buy exclusive (there are stickers placed on these, in the Best Buyses) while the Shana CD/DVD combo pack was not (got mine off amazon). Next time I go to Best Buy I will double-check these Ergo Proxy issues, as well as exact pricing, for you. But I don't think that will be for another 3-10 days. |

I got my Ergo Proxy artbox from Best Buy, it doesn't come with the OST though, you have to buy it individually to get the OST packaged with it. They had the art box though, got mine there and my local Best Buy still has a few of them.

My Best Buy also had one or two Ergo Proxy starter boxes when I was there last, they also had a Fate/Stay Night starter box. Everything was picked over though because of Xmas.

Speaking of Best Buy I saw the Fate/stay night box with the first volume at Best Buy for $32.99. Now here's the thing, rightstuf has it for $35.99.

I checked Best Buy this past weekend. They have the Ergo Proxy Vol 1 DVD all by itself for $25, same as on the website. They have the Ergo Proxy DVD/CD combo for $28. They had run out of the boxsets, though.
Also, a local Suncoast recently either got a 2nd shipment of Fate boxes or they put out their secret stash, cause there were almost 10 of them when I last went. But I made a horrible discovery. Around 6 or so of those boxes were of the light-print-tone variety that I had theorized had something inside because they rattled. And guess what? 5 of the 6 light-tone boxes rattled!! So it's DEFINITELY NOT coincidence. Also, after talking to a very nice employee in that same Suncoast, he said that he had noticed the same thing and after buying 2 Fate boxes himself, he said that indeed the DVD disc is loose and rolling around inside the rattling boxes. He said that he afterwards exchanged his disc for a new Fate single DVD without the box (it's good that some Suncoasts let you do that, I didn't know). That's bad though. There's a huge batch of Fate boxes which for some wacked out reason all have the DVD disc rolling around loose inside getting scratched up. Maybe 30% to 50% of all Fate boxes have a loose disc inside (the ones that came from a light-tone batch). Isn't this bad production standards? |
