I was watching Toonami and Adult Swim last night when it occured to me: Everyone complains of how Naruto was edited for America. It was a great joy for most when the Uncut box set came out. So, why not air Naruto Uncut on Adult Swim. I don't say this just because I want to see it, I say this also because it is a great financial move.

Think of it this way. Toonami, although it has much appeal to older teens, it is mainly geared for ages 8-13. The proof is the edits and the fact that the Zatch Bell ccg is rated 8-12 years old.
Adult Swim catches many people who are between the ages of 14-21, and some older. If Naruto Uncut were to premiere on AS, the series would have greater appeal to older people. Right now, even if people complain of the edits, they really won't change much because they make so much money from the younger kids. It's not just the show, but the merchandise as well.

Well, now that I have laid the foundations, do you agree with me? Do you think it is a good idea? Think its bad? What's your opinion? I tried to make it as detailed as possible so the mods wouldn't lock it.

Naruto is a show that is primarily aiming for those 8-13 year olds though.
And seeing as though something like Bleach isn't getting great ratings (when compared to Naruto) on Adult Swim, it would probably be best if it did remain in the time slot that it's in now.

I think it's a bad idea. Naruto is a show for kids, not adults. Adult Swim's audience is 18-34. Sure, Naruto might appeal to people in that age group, but the main audience is the kids.

Anyway, a series like Naruto wouldn't appeal to older people with just the few changes they'd need to move it to AS. They wouldn't gain any new viewers, but they'd lose the younger ones.

An uncut ersion would likely do okay on Adult Swim but only really as a place holder between shows or something. The show is too drawn out for people who aren't fans to want to follow it but the action scenes are good enough to bring in a casual watcher if they just showed the fights all the time.

The 8-13 demographic has a bit more maneuverability, in my opinion. Since they're still at or before puberty, they've got somewhat of a stranglehold on their parents to buy them stuff.

Meanwhile, the 14+ demographic is more independent, as in right at the cusp or past puberty, and slowly into adulthood. Socially speaking, they learn to become less and less reliant on their parents. They get their own jobs, make their own money, learn to drive, and that sort of thing in order to prepare for themselves.

And with the independence that comes from that demographic, you probably have people deciding whether or not to buy this and that (clothes, food, and whatever other essentials a growing adolescent starts to need).

Simpy put, little kids are easier to market to because it's easier for them coerce their parents into buying stuff, whereas adolescents start to lean away from that trend and must financially concentrate on other things (if that makes sense).

Also, I would say the 8-13 demographic is much larger than the 14+. Throw in the fact that some kids tend to psychologically advance past cartoons around that puberty age or the fact that [adult swim] has the word "adult" in it (for those really overprotective parents to worry about) , and you've got another reason why Toonami is more popular.

Naruto is a kids' show, edits or not. Remember, Japan has different standards for their children. It's doing well in it's timeslot and demographic, compared to Bleach which runs uncut, so it's better to keep Naruto on Toonami.

No. I don't see why Naruto would be on [adult swim] (even when it's uncut). The show is aimed at pre-teens (just like Yu Yu Hakusho) and I don't know any other [adult swim] show that starred a spoiled 12-year-old and had the same style as Naruto. It's an okay-show for kids because it however shows them values of friendship and teamwork.

Plus, Toonami even aired Dragon Ball Z uncut and two movies uncut without getting sued. So Naruto will also show on Cartoon Network rather than [adult swim] and Toonami still won't get sued.

_if they switched over to Adult Swim and a different time block they would lose a large part of their target audience. Just look at the marketing and merchandise with all the video games, clothing, and headbands. I have on several occasions, seen kids 13 and younger wearing Naruto headbands out in public. Children have short attention spans, and if Naruto was no longer avalible for them to watch, they would quickly forget about it. And that would hurt them in the merchandise department.
It is true that there would be less on the cutting room floor if Naruto was on Adult Swim, but that is what the dvd's are for. Just think of the number of people who buy the dvd's just for that reason. So not only do they make a profit from the merchandise bought by the younger viewers, but they make a profit from the older viewers who want to see the material that they are not seeing on CN.

In case you might have misunderstood me, what I am saying is to keep Naruto edited on Toonami, and also put the uncut version on Adult Swim. True, there is the fact that the show is aimed at preteens, but think about how many people are huge fans of Naruto. There are so many fan websites with older teens on it. They mainly stray from the English cut version and go for Naruto uncut in Japan or the new box set. If the uncut series was to premiere on Toonami, all of those people would begin watch Adult Swim more to see it. Thus, more profit would come in through commercials, and the Adult Swim producers would be richer.

but if they did that then they would lose a time slot on Adult Swim, and lose it for a long time. Also it would be a bad idea to have time slots compete with each other on the same network. It is true that they might gain some more viewers short term, but in the long run they would actually lose viewers. If I happened to catch the 8pm airing, why should I watch it at 11pm? The little bit of censorship really doesn't affect the story enough to make me want to watch it again just for that.

It's foolish to complain about the edits in the Naruto dub when you get about only two per episode and they're just the removal of a couple drops of blood and whatnot. It's not like they're turning it into a 4Kids hackjob (like the horrible UK version). Some anime fans these days are just so snobby, they complain about everything.

And Naruto would fail on Adult Swim.

why waste that slot time when it could be used for something else when Naruto's already on CN, i do wish that a uincut version would hit the shelves though.

Naruto should stay in the Toonami lineup. Somehow I see Naruto as not really fitting in with the Adult Swim scene too much.

The Uncut version really wouldn't make a difference. I've seen original and uncut shows and they only differ with the fact that blood is shown and some minor additions. But yeah anyway...that's my opinion.

Now I realize that, yeah, it wouldn't really do very good. I mean, if it was the uncut version of One Piece, maybe...

To play the Devil's Advocate, though, Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist were also aimed at an almost identical age bracket (and before we go over this again, Fullmetal was placed in a young boys' timeslot and isn't the first children's show to tackle heady socio-political themes...Gundam, anyone?). But as you said, Naruto has more ratings success on Toonami, and Fullmetal does have those intense themes to it that warrant—at least in this country—skewing towards an older demographic.
