Fighterholic, may I know the reason behind your constant questioning people about how acquaintances of anime fans in real life judge their anime/manga-collecting and con-going behavior? This is your fourth thread in a month -- one every week in average.

I was just watching Kino's Journeys...first episode on the TV in the family room. Those of you who have seen it recently know it starts out with a scene of Kino panting pretty hard because of digging and running...of course my mom misconstrued me as watching porn...sigh..

The motive behind my asking everybody is simply to see how they fare in the real world with their hobby. To just be friendly. Is it a sin to just ask? I'm sure you have your thing with family members.

My family's indifferent to my anime/manga habit. After all, I'm an adult, it's my money, and how I spend it is my business and mine alone.

Of course, with my growing collection, I'm going to need to build some shelves on my walls for all my DVDs and manga volumes. Laughing

This year, I'm going to Comic Con with my brother and sister-in-law. I don't know what to cosplay as though. Any suggestions?

Dude, are you talking about the one in San Diego?

Yep. That's where he lives after all(San Diego, not Comic Con). I heard from my brother that they've got everything there. So it should be really cool and I get to spend time with my brother like brothers should. So I'm REALLY happy. He said he'd take me with him during summer break. This'll be great. My first convention.

When I was in school, people called me a freak, or even a devil worshipper, but the little girls in my school (I studied in an all-girls)loved my pictures, so I drew them anime characters (I even did one in the English room wall, since my class was in charge of decorating it, although mine was the only B/W one)

My mom doesn't mind me watching anime, but she sometimes says that I watch too much. Of course, I don't let that bother me.

My aunts know I like anime, and I turned my aunt Maria into a FMA fan. My aunt Eliana's going to give me the FMA movie for Xmas and my aunt Rio said she'd get me 16 CDs to burn the FMA series (since I have it in my hard drive and it's biting a BIG chunk off it)

Some of my cousins like anime (especially Daniel, who's a NGE fan, and Juliana, who thought is 9 years old wants to draw manga like me -_-U)

Many of my friends aren't into it, and they either don't talk about it, or they tease me, but I know they've seen anime more than once Anime hyper

Nobody questions me about it. Friends, family, co-workers, etc., they're all aware of my various hobbies (anime is one of many, in fact my second-most prominent next to classic video game collecting), but they don't bother me about anime in general. Nobody else I know is interested in it, and they don't make fun of me for it. They just don't care, as well they shouldn't since it doesn't directly concern them, especially since I'm living on my own so my family doesn't have to worry about seeing my anime collection anyways.

My younger brother, 19 years old, hates anime, probably because in high school we made fun of the guys that wore DBZ T-shirts and talked about how DBZ and Ninja Scroll and stuff like that were all great and crap. Annoying as hell. Apparently, my brother never did like anime because he believes that cartoons should be funny and episodic, like the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons we used to watch a lot of (and still do). He doesn't have the attention span for a serious storyline with a plot, and I can't blame him, because I'm usually the same way. He does like Cromartie HIgh, though... My youngest brother, 13, doesn't care, but he likes Azumanga Daioh (although it's the dub).

I took a high school Japanese class for two years, not because of my interest in anime. In fact, prior to joining the military, the only exposure to anime I had was Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo, Gundam Wing, Voltron, and whatever played on Toonami. I was indifferent to a lot of it, but I loved Tenchi Muyo and if you didn't guess by my username, I'm an Ami Mizuno fan. Knew a girl in that class that was big on anime and manga, went around eBay and the like for subtitled episodes of Sailor Moon and the like. Haven't talked to her in years. She was the only other person I knew that was interested in anime.

Everyone else I know is indifferent to my hobby. They're like "so you buy Japanese animation" and that's about it. They don't pull the "why" or "are you a pedophile" or my favorite "anime more like ANNIE MAY AMIRITE :V" retorts. I mean, I don't talk about it wherever I go, and half the time they forget that I collect anime DVDs as a hobby. However, the one joke that my friends or co-workers make when they come by my place is the same old "I forgot your room is a den of pedophilia haha" and we all laugh and then we watch old professional wrestling DVDs, and we argue about that because I hold to the fact that Arn Anderson is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time yet they disagree and say Ricky Steamboat is and then we get drunk and forget what happened.

In short, tl;dr?

If you're going this year then definatly. Our dad said it was alright that I go. And if you want to know how to find me at Comic Con, then I suggest checking my brother's MySpace or his blog on MySpace. His user name is Spaceboye. Or you could just type Spaceboye into Google. You'll know who I am since I'm "the little guy"(Compared to my brother's height, and my real height, I believe is around 5'7 or 5'8.). Hope we'll see each other.

My family has no word in what I like. We are three siblings and we are very, very different so my parents are very open to variety. Perhaps my mom would have something to say in respect to the violence of some scenes, (she especially hates Berserk ) but she just understands my passion for anime so she doesn't have anything to say in respect to that, nor has she eveer tried..

My friends.... well, some of them are into anime, some are not. But in general they don't say anything about this hobby of mine.

On the other hand the only ones that have something bad to say about anime are my collegues from the university that I attend. I have to explain here a bit the situation. I attend two schools: a serious and prestigiuos one and an art intitute at the same time. I really don't know how I still have time to watch anime. Laughing Anyways, the collegues from my serious university have always something to say against anime, while my collegues from the art institute are very opened. (thank God that the Naruto fever seemed to have cooled off Rolling Eyes ).

Anyways, I never let anyone to dictate to me what I should like and what I shouldn't like.

My mom has no problem with me watching anime. My dad does not like it that much. I think he sees it as childish. My brother and sister watch anime as well. I got both of them into anime. I recommended the series School Rumble, Kanon, Karin, and others to her. I got my brother into Bleach and Utawarerumono. All of my friends are anime fans. I have gone to two anime conventions with them and at the last one I cosplayed for the first time as Xigbar.

I have, I believe, only one friend who is into anime and she is only into Naruto (which is odd since she's the type of person who looks like they're not interested in anime at all) but atleast we have discussions concerning anime at times and it led us to be very close friends. The rest of my other friends ridicule anime fans because it's seen as "nerdy" so I just keep my interest in the genre away from them but when they see a manga I have or something they never say anything at all. When I draw anime on the computer during my computer class I got a lot of compliments and even the teacher liked them.

My family also isn't really into my anime viewing but they don't really care if I watch it and at times if its something the whole family can enjoy (Miyazaki) we will watch it together. The infant family members love Spirited Away. Grandparents liked Grave of the Fireflies too.

My younger family members are into anime quite a bit but we have very few interest in common. My 14 and 16 year old cousins are really into Dragonball and Naruto but they do like my anime when they watch it (they loved Now and Then Here and There and NANA) and my very few younger siblings are interested in only a few but they love it when I bring something they like. They're around the ages of 8 an 9 one a boy another a girl and they LOVE Super Gals, Samurai Champloo, and Peach Girl (which is why I'm guessing they for some reason love the movie Mean Girls).

I don't have any friends, so in regards to watching anime that really isn't a problem. Some of the people I work with know that I watch anime, but they have no clue how big my collection is. My mom has no problem with it just as long as I help with the bills. Sometimes though she will walk in my room look at the televison and ask, "How can you sit there and watch that crap". To be honest I can't tell if she's being sarcastic or sincere. Confused

That's funny since me and my brother have more in common than we do to our dad. We're the only siblings each other has so we're pretty close. He doesn't like anime but will help me with anime related stuff when I need the help. That's one reason I'm glad to have him for an older brother. We have similar intrests(We both like Harry Potter and Scream as well as South Park and Beavis and Butthead. However I can stand them (Beavis and Butthead)longer than he can). Our personalities are similar: I'm hyper and cheerful and act like a little kid at times and, while he's much more grown up than I am(It's also expected since I'm the younger brother), he acts like a kid sometimes too. Could also be because he's got a "kid" brother. But he's a really great guy. I don't know what I'd do without him and I don't want to start thinking about it.

Still looking forward to Comic Con*Prays for school to end*.

@doug19992000, what do you mean you have no friends? Are you a loner or something? I bet you have at least ONE good friend.

How do I answer this question? I'm not really a loner, I get along with the majority of the people I meet. However, I usually consider them more as acquaintances then friends. The irony is as quiet and soft-spoken as I am I've held conversations with alot of people.

I had one good friend, but time and space just seperated us and I haven't heard from him in awhile.
