I just realized I never made a thread for the Anime forum, while I had threads in all the other forums. What do people think of your watching anime, or looking at the size of your collection that you have in wherever you stash your anime.

My folks don't really care much about my collection, though they don't know that I have mature titles as well. If they did then they might express some opinions then. My mom does not like anime, but she does not get into my watching it unless I let it get in the way of school. My dad could care less about it, unless school is involved as well. My grandma does not like my hobby at all, as I mentioned in another thread.

A little while ago I was watching the Adventures of the Mini Goddesses, and my mom came in and looked at it, and thought it was stupid. I wasn't surprised.

My friends are all into anime, so they obviously don't care. My parents don't really care, either. My brother thinks it's crap (this coming from an 18-year-old who watches WWE and Nickelodeon) and my little sister sometimes watches funny series (she saw Golden Boy when she was 10 and loved it).

I don't think my family really minds much. My mom and dad couldn't care less about the fact that I watch anime. My brother bugs me about it but it's just part of his personality (which is a strange mix of big city metropolitan and racist redneck) so I don't mind much. In regards to my friends, a handful of them watch anime with me or are truly interested in it. The rest just don't really mind and leave it at that. Actually, I managed to take on friend of mine from not liking anime into being a pretty big fan so I know that most of the people I hang around with are at least interested in it. At least the guys, the girls I know don't tend to have many common extracurricular interests with me.

all my friends are anime fans too so it doesnt matter. besides their collections are bigger.

my mom dosent care about it. she rather me into anime and be a gamer otaku geek then the average hoochie dressing black girl in my neighborhood.

my sister back when she was here liked it little since we got into it at the same time.

Mom tells me I need to grow up, I'm living in a fantasy world. I'm wasting my money. I'm participating in escaping from the real world....

And she goes by my room going Kyaa kyaa like a girl screaming if there's anything like that going on in the show.

Well my dad is like KKK racist against anime and MOST video games (he likes Poll Position and Galaga and Raiden Fighters) and he hates seeing me sitting there watching ANYTHING and/or playing a game. My mom doesnt care and even kinda likes Advent Children, Ah! My Goddess and a few others...........all my friends mostly like anime but a few just either doesnt like TV or just doesnt like things that are animated buteven so they know i like anime and dont ever care about it or, for the ones that like anime, come and watch with me and/or want to borrow it. (Just got my Love Hina Again back and getting my Cossette back tomorrow, i hope.)

_the majority of my friends don't watch anime, and they all wonder why I do. For a while I thought it was my "duty" to convert them, but then I realized that it was foolish of me. We all have our hobbies, such as I don't care for nascar. Of course I have told them all that the invitation is open anytime they want to watch some.

There's a huge desire to go all out and have moe moe wall scrolls, calendars, PVC figurines and art books/manga/magazines/dvds lying everywhere but for me I've kind of reached my "limit." My roommate doesn't really think much of it since he's the last guy you'd think to be an anime fan, but he's willing to partake in my reading when a fanservice-shot in Negima comes into view. He's also watched selected episodes from Eva & Twelve Kingdoms on DVD (dubbed, against my will) and actually enjoyed it...somewhat. I keep my anime activities to a minimum around those that aren't as into it.

I have some friends...or shall I say "had" some friends since now we just do get-togethers, that have no understanding of anime and I wouldn't last 10 seconds talking to them about it. So I really keep it to a minimum with them. However, a few of them have been influenced to watch a series or two - really quite beyond my belief. If someone even mentions "Bleach" (well, not anymore) I'm already next to them talking about it. I was really happy when one of the girls in our group who had 0 interest in anime said she watched the Twelve Kingdoms and really liked it. Apparently her new roommates are really into anime and video games, etc, so she got sucked into watching some. When she said "yeah have you seen Cardcaptor Sakura it's so cute" I burst out "YES!" and then realized how embarassing that was.

My parents are probably more understanding than most because well, they were born in Japan. They have no problems with me liking Japanese culture and all since it's my nationality but they still think I could have a better hobby than anime. We (used to) watch Japanese TV every weekend evenings, and at one point Densha Otoko was airing. They started calling me "Densha Otoko" and "otaku" because I watch anime (I wasn't happy about it). They also said I looked exactly (そっくり!) like Saku from "Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World" (世界の中心で、愛を叫ぶ), so there's no issues with J-Dramas, either. My mom even supported my desire to write some manga for leisure by making up some storylines/scenarios. My dad knows I like anime of course, and on a business trip to Japan he brought back one of those free booklets while he was nearby Akihabara for me. It had this completely loli anime girl in a kimono and he probably thought it was just a cute, innocent little drawing, when it was actually aimed at ronery 30-year olds. I was grateful for the free magazine from overseas but a little embarassed, too. Don't want your parents thinking you're a pedo, right? Oh and my brother pretty much got me into anime so no issues there.

Summary: "Closet" (although everyone knows) anime fan but ready to discuss anything anime/Japan-related at the drop of the hat.

Most people don't care. Anime smallmouth Some of my friends and my cousins are mega jealous of my collection, though.

My parents think I'm wasting my money really, but I'm 24 so it's my choice what to do with it, and I choose to entertain myself. I need to build myself some more shelf space for it all though.

The only anime friends I have I made after becoming a fan. None of my older friends, my closest friends, are into anime at all. However, none of them really think anything about the fact I do. Lol, I tend to be the odd one anyway, so they just smile and nod at this like they do everything.

My family is nice enough about it. Really nice, in fact. Just before I started watching anime, I got really, really sick. I couldn't drive for about a year and had a lot of problems walking, among other things. When I wanted to go to an anime convention, my brother-in-law, who doesn't watch anime at all, drove me there and escorted me around the whole time. My mother, who doesn't like any animation, bought me the ticket. I wouldn't have been able to go otherwise, being too sick to work or pretty much do anything alone. My daughter, of course, loves it. My ex, or my boyfriend, offered to cosplay and go to the cons. All in all, I'd say I am really lucky in the fact that my family accept me regardless of the quirk of the moment.

Being older means I don't have to ask permission, but at times, it does mean people think it is a bit stranger than when a teen watches anime. Smile

My mom likes anime, especially Big O. My dad and older brother don't though. My brother DOES help me with anime stuff though when I need it and I'm grateful to him for that. My grandma likes anime as well. Many of my friends are otakus except for my youngest friend(My little brother buddy). He's a sports fan so I showed him Baki the Grappler. I don't know what he thought about it though and have never asked him.

This year, I'm going to Comic Con with my brother and sister-in-law. I don't know what to cosplay as though. Any suggestions?

One of my friend, the anti-japan dude, call me a japanophile (and I am not really) for buying anime, some of my friends describes my collection as porn, but most of them are okay with it and I have even one friend who watch a lot of it (anime, not porn)! As for my family, my mother and father don't really care, my sister rant about it times to times and my brother always make stupids comments. No big deal.
