battle athletes dvd region

I just had a small question on the region of dvds because i just got the dvds of battle athletes and in the region there a 1 and 4 is it possible to have more than one region on a dvd? becasue it is the only dvd i have that has it that way or is it some thing to do with that its pionner and a little bit older?

Many of my older Funimation DVDs are Region 1,2, & 4. I'm guessing there are a lot of discs similar to that. They probably weren't as strict in enforcing region coding with anime as much back then as they may be now.
