I was wondering what were the differences between the Chobits TV Series Perfect Collection and the Chobits Complete Collection released in thinpacks. Which would be better to buy? I know they have a different number of disks, but what about Special features or anything like that?

Please Help!

That so-called "Perfect Collection" is probably a bootleg. Do you have any links to the products?

7-disc thinpak = real

3-disc set that you found on eBay for 20 bucks = illegal

There's your difference.

There are three sets of Chobits. One was just the first half of the series in its regular volumes, one was the second half, and one is a thinpak.

No wonder it was so darn cheep...

I did find it on Ebay, accidently.

[Removed the URL since it's a bootleg -TK]

I thought it looked pretty legit, oh well, I liked the thinpack cover better.

Thanks for the help! I'm really glad I didn't try to get it now.

If it's a 3 disc set that only has volumes 1-3 or 4-6, it's legit as well. The thinpak is also legit Smile

Yeah, that's definitely a bootleg product. FX are notorious anime bootleggers. You should read this thread in the retail forum about spotting bootlegs: animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5401

One thing I've learned about spotting bootlegs is look for the distributor, they will always be on the box. I found a Tsukihime 2 disc set that had all twelve eps on it, but I couldn't fing the licensor/distributor, which is Geneon. I found this same product at anime castle also.

You have pay attention when buying stuff on eBay. Anytime you try to search for a series, 90% of the results are bootlegs. Try to be careful and if it sounds too good, it is not real.

Here is some information about Chobits releases. Pioneer (before they changed their name to Geneon) first released Chobits on individual DVDs and the special limited edition box all of which is impossible to find currently. After they released all the DVDs, they had bundled DVD packs like their other series. They released Chobits in three DVD bundles much like what they did with Last Exile. Finally after a while they released Chobits in a Thinkpak collection. Last Exile received the same treatment. These are fairly hard to find and cost a bit but you have to spend some money for something you like.

Here is a site for a real Chobits Thinkpak: Chobits

Support the market! Watch out for bootlegs! Have fun!

The DVD Bundles were only 2. Unless you count volume 7 as a 1-Disc bundle. I know cause those are the ones I bought. The craptacular "Bailey Boxes"

The way I worded the DVD bundle was a little confusing and misleading. I meant to say that Geneon released Chobits and Last Exile DVD bundles. The bundles contain 3 individual DVDs and come with a plastic box.

By the way, why did Geneon not include the seventh DVD of Chobits with the bundles?

Hope this clears up some confusion.

Which is why I would stay away from e-bay in the first place when it comes to any kind of anime or even movies.

Ebay can be pretty good for picking up OOP anime and other hard to find items though.
One good thing to do is make sure the auction actually has a photo of the item rather than a generic stock picture, this also usually means that for shop sellers they actually have the item in stock.

I've bought and sold 100% legit anime on ebay.com and half.ebay.com for years. Avoiding ebay altogether is not necessary, just bother to do your homework and you'll be fine. I've never ended up with unexpected bootlegs in all the years I've been buying on ebay and I know what the bootlegs look like thanks to sites like this one. Seriously, if you end up with a bootleg on ebay you really only have yourself to blame at this point.

Damn it, I didn't know they did that with Last Exile. I would've picked that up too, I bought both Chobits and X in these bundles.

Not to be a jerk to you, but if there were 3 disc Bailey Box bundles for Last Exile, what happened to the 7th disc? I know Heat Guy J was set up 3-4, which fans picked up the first 3-Disc box for $20 and then complained that Best Buy didn't have the other box.
