Yep, Aoi Miyazaki will be replaced by Ichikawa Yui. While Ichikawa Yui is quite cute, it will be a testament to her acting ability if she can fill the role of Hachi as well as Miyazaki, who I thought was perfect as Hachi. |

I heard somewhere that she was replaced because she didn't want to dirty her reputation (?) with Hachi's sleeping with guys ness. |

There's a bunch of rumors of why she was replaced. The reason above was listed. Also they say that she was replaced because of contract problems. She was already signed on to do something else and her agent didn't want her to play Hachi again because as the NANA series more emphasis is put on Nana rather than Hachi  (you shouldn't shun the role that makes you famous...) I think the idea that she'd tarnish her rep is sort of BS. I can see her agent not wanting her to be just a "co-star" (haha, but I'm being bitter)
Personally, I can see Yui doing well as Hachi. Aoi never quite fit the role for me, and Yui seems like a better fit. I guess we'll see though. And actually, Ren is also being replaced. It's sort of crazy. I'm pretty sure that in the U.S. they wouldn't just replace 2 main actors like that nowadays. They'd either not make the film, or bribe the stars really well xD I find all this really interesting. I don't think it's official yet, but I hope Yuna Ito plays Reira again. I think she will, but I don't know if it's certain. But since she's with Sony just like Mika, I'm sure it will be fine. |

Ren too! Geez this is just terrible. Two of the three main characters have been replaced. Of course I haven't read the manga so I don't know whose important later on (Haichi becomes a slut? That seems odd) but this doesn't bode well. Not that it matters I guess. I am still going to watch it.

Hachi was always a bit, er... "slutty" in the manga version. Not that she was a whore, she just fell in love with every guy she laid eyes on basically. They didn't choose to portray her that way in the first movie, which in my opinion made her a lot more likable. Though Aoi Miyazaki was more the reason for that
I'm going to miss Miyazaki, but I will give this other girl a fair shot at the role. Ren was a really odd recast, since there were no rumours about the actor not returning at all. I thought he was perfect person for the role. I hope Yuna is back as Reira too, though I'm not sure how deep they are going to show Reira/Trapnests story in the second movie. Nana-nana.net has her confirmed as Reira's "Songstress", if that is true or not I'm not sure. |

But they didn't actually say that he was the same character, did they? I've actually seen that in a few U.S. *terrible* movies (Mask 2, 102 Dalmations etc.) Completely recasting is different. |

I thought so too, that's why i wasn't sure. Although for a lot of big Hollywood movies, main actors aren't usually switched (unless they die like in Harry Potter) because a lot of times movies made money off people who only watch the movies because they know the actors from another movie. |

Yeah, she used to be gravure...so I guess she doesn't have to worry about tarnishing her reputation 
But she's moved away from gravure over the past few years. She's gotten more popular in the mainstream as she's taken part in doramas and films. |
