It is the most sucessful anime ever, so why hasn't it come to North America? It's been released just about everywhere else. I am guessing some sort of copyright problem.

While I think it's perfect content-wise, it has a lot of episodes(as in 1095) and is probably very expensive.

Yes, but they could release small dvds one at a time. And when they have the money release more

Think about having to dub over a 1000 episodes. At this point, there is no point. And I think that some of the people watching it wouldn't get what's going on.

Yeah, why don't you walk up to TV Asahi and tell them that, then let me know when they stop laughing at you.

Which would be never. But anyway, Sazae-san and Doreamon are just too long, and would attract very small audiences.

As awesome as a bunch of the ginormously super long family anime are (Like Nintama, Doraemon, Sazae-san, Anpanman, Chibi Maruko-chan) they also may not have that much of a secured guaranteed audience here (unlike say….Poke’mon, the first of it’s kid to brought to America, when anime was just really getting a tail wind. Also, poke’mon relied heavily on merchandise and cute fuzzy fighting animals, which like….Ge ge ge Kitaro or sazae-san really don’t.). I mean, I consider titles such as those the Looney-tunes and animaniacs of Japan.

While the Countries that adopted them early on (ish...as in, it wasn't a thousand episodes in 0_0) Like maybe China, can keep it going, I'm not sure how...sane...it would be to try and license it for American audiences.

Especially since a lot of Americans seem to think all anime should be mind blowingly epic and fast-paced.
Slow episodic family geared stuff doesn’t seem to go over all that well (with a few possible exceptions?) and the longer, the more expensive.
They’re not going to lcense something that long if they’re not totally sure it’ll go over ell.
Doraemon’s also kinda old, and doesn’t have much of a fanbase (unfortunately)

Same with the manga (although there seems to be a slightly larger following for the manga. It seems least a little more feasible).

FAR too expensive and there's no guarantee people here will regard it as an instant classic.
Straight to DVD wouldn’t make nearly enough money for a series like that (to episodic) , and I’m not sure anyone would put it on T.V. here, it’s hard to place.

Even if they put 10 episodes on each DVD, it would still be 100 volumes X $30 = $3000.

What i'm saying is they could release the first few episodes, and if they go over well release some more, and so on.

There is no point to release 1000 episodes. Not too many anime watchers have seen over 1000 episodes, plus not many people have the attention span to keep with a 1000 episode anime......

If you want to watch it that bad, go over to Japan and watch it

I've seen it. I'm not saying they have to release all 1,029 episodes.

If they license it, they'd have to license ALL of it, which costs them just as much. Doesn't make a difference. there's no 'test' stage, which is why it's a buisness.

The papers (Copyright and title) cost a ton by themselves. It's not episode by episode, and it's not that easy. There's a lot of planning and promises. You can't just have a title sitting around.

Episode are episodic, so it doesn't matter if they put out 1000 or the first 200. They can just put the first few episode and then all the best episode and it still would be very enjoyable. Each episode are fairly short as well. If it air on TV, it has the best chance than going straight to DVD. The only reason that doraemon wouldn't do well is there probably isn't a big enough audience for it. Most adults and older teen here will look at it as "baby" stuff.

No they do not have to license "all" the episode. They can negoiate for a certain amount/season for a test run. Just look at the recent crayon shinchan or even bobobobo or whatever.

Nobody thinks all anime has to be epic. There have been several children's animes licensed in North America, like Hamtaro.

And I definitely wouldn't call hentai "epic" either. Fast paced maybe, but not epic.
