Hopefully the title is all that's changed and not everything else...judging by the one picture it looks like they didn't change Yamato but I'm going off a promo pic.

Production I.G and its partners screened the first episode of the Star Blazers 2199 anime with an English dub at Anime Expo. The first episode will screen at Comic-Con on July 20 starting at 2:00 p.m. PDT.

Is this actually being released by the studios themselves? I don't recall a third party licensor or distributor

In that preview trailer, they had the Yamato changed to Argo in the subs. Changing it in the actual video would be much harder, and probably look like ass if they attempted it.

A company called Voyager entertainment has the rights.

So help me, if they call the ship "Argo", I'm not spending a red penny on this damn release.

Thanks. Is this their first anime release in the US?

First time paying to dub something they've had the rights to the old Star Blazers Yamato dubs for ages and they released the movies there subbed. The releases in the past were sort of meh in video quality from what I understand and pricey compared to what we normally pay for anime today.

I agree. The name of the Yamato was a huge story point in the original, and changing it to anything else would require heavy edits to the script, which is something with which I will not allow a compromise.

We're decades past the days of "Star Blazers", people. We want to see Yamato the way it was MEANT to be seen.

I'm disappointed, if this is the same distributor that holds the actual license and released the old Star Blazers sets here. I love this new series, but I really don't want to buy some altered version of it that costs like the packaging is made of gold studded with diamonds. At least they got a good dubbing company though.

Well, we will know this week. I seriously doubt they'd just up and change names in the show and they probably went with Star Blazers in name only for the sake of nostalgia.

Hey, let's all wine and complain about something that hasn't even been confirmed yet... Do you even read your own comments before posting them?

Kinda wonder if the cast watched Star Blazers when they were kids, kinda like how some of the cast of War for Cybertron were kids when G1 was on tv.

On a similar note, guys who were saying they were angry, have you ever watched the original when it was airing on US tv in either the 70s or 80s? And were you even alive back then?

I never did pick up the original Star Blazers series, though I've always wanted to (cost). I'll definitely will be picking up this version of the series, though, when Voyager releases it.

IMHO changing Yamato to Argo is really a "sensitivity over World War II" issue that isn't valid in this day and age, and I say that as someone whose grandparents lived through the Japanese occupation.

I will be more angry over cheesy character name changes to match the old version. And yes I did grow up watching the show in the 1970's. But the age group that would think the name "Derek Wildstar" is cool aren't the target audience for expensive anime blurays.

Anyway, I wish we had confirmation over whether there are character name changes so I can figure out how the hell I'm gonna save up for the Japanese blurays ($80 each).

The subs in that preview didn't seem like they were "Buck Rodgers/Flash Gordon/Blaze Laser/American Gladiators"-ifiying the names. That would be a serious point of contention, because that shit has long passed us by. Just Argo for Yamato, which doesn't make sense when you're crew is still all Japanese and has Yamato everywhere on board.

I have seen the original Yamato, but I've never seen any Star Blazers. I have zero nostalgia and little care for its existence.
