I recently bought the first DVD of GTO from the local media mega-store, and when I opened it up I found there was only the disc and an advetisement sheet. Doesn't it also come with some liner notes? And also the quality seemed pretty bad compared to other DVDs I owned, has anyone noticed this problem? I'll be returning it soon if possible, but I want to know if I should get it from somewhere else or if the problems are common to every TokyoPop GTO DVD.

Not all DVD's or anime comes with liner notes. I'm not sure if GTO is supposed to, but it's not uncommon for them to just not be there at all, like with all my DBZ discs, 40+ and not a one came with liner notes.

Heh, I'm sorry chosen I didn't clarify what I was saying. I loved GTO, I thought it was hilarious and I can see it playing a straighter angle later as well. When I said quality I meant visual quality. The colors on my disc tend to look rather grainy which is strange considering the DVD format.

As for the liner notes I heard that GTO supposedly came with some that explained some of the Japanese cultural terms used in some of the jokes. Still waiting for word if anyone has liner notes (or anything besides a simple ad) in their GTO DVD #1.

My Volume 1 also only has the disc and the one page ad. There are liner notes starting in volume 2.

Also, what are you referring to when you say the quality is bad.

My volume 1 doesn't have notes. I've never noticed any problems with the video quality on the discs either.

OKay thanks. When I say the visual quality is bad, I'm looking at some of the blocks of color. They seem to be grainy and have a texture of their own that changes constantly.

But anyway I won't sweat it. It could be just me, as long as the DVD came with everything it was supposed to, I don't care if I see a problem in the visuals.

Hmm, I am now really beggining to think that my disc is just plain defective. It's frozen twice in my brother's Xbox DVD player and has a frequent problem of the screen shifting around. I'll try to explain this better. Imagine watching the show in a theatre type projection setting, and then imagine someone bumping the projector every second or so. THe effect isn't pronounced, but it's enough to become incredibly distracting. My comment on the graininess of the picture still stand, and the only other place I've seen this (though to a lesser degree) is on my friends Trigun bootleg. (Don't worry, he has since realized the error of his ways and bought the boxed set.)

Any ideas?

Your problem might be in the fact that you are using your xbox to play dvd's, i know that mine never looked so great before i bought a dvd player. so if you have the money go buy a dvd player and try it, i bet it will be much better.

Well, it did the same thing on my PS2, and the Xbox is a much better DVD player than that. But you have a very good point, and my parents are fed up with our awful PS2 DVD player, so they want a standalone unit as much as I do. We'll see what happens. Any recommendations as to a certain model of DVD player?

try it on a regular DVD player.

Game system DVD players are not their focus, thus they put lesser quality players in them.

I hate it when I click on minimize and some how it becomes close. Mad

Anyhoot, I would pick DVD-ROM. Better video, sound, and cheaper without feeling like you got it at gas station (Around $100 on both of mine.) However, sound depends on sound card and video on the card, so you might have to spend more on it. Plus it would help if it's in an area where other people can see it.

Well, the playstation I was using to watch DVDs has become truly awful. There's a high pitched buzzing noise whenever the thing is on. So I bought an actual DVD player from Sony and it work quite well. The colors are smooth and it has all the features I was looking for.

However GTO still has the same "jitter." It doesn't bother me anymore, as Evangelion has a very similar problem and I've gotten used to it.

I still think it's odd that I'm the only one having this problem with my GTO disk.

Well, clean your DVD player atleast once a week (once every two weeks if you don't use that much) fixs a lot more probelms then just skipping and freezing. Besides, I let the PS 2 and X-Box to games and DVD Players to Movies.

Evangelion does have a very noticeable subtitle 'jump' to it... I've noticed that on a number of ADV DVDs, though, not just on NGE.... I don't notice it so much on my GTO discs, but there are a number of rainbows on the first one.... similar to the Trigun discs, which are particularly bad for the rainbows... ADV does seem to have the worst subtitle 'jump,' though....
