All I can say is... wow, UtaPri. Maybe this fujoshi boom really is a thing. I'm looking for Free! to sell a minimum of 30k now.

There's a concert ticket or event ticket with it. There will likely be a massive drop for the second volume (though it will likely still sell quite well, just not in the Madoka Magica/Monogatari range)

Nothing weird about that, Okatu have to choose which show to buy,
Fusjouhi don't, there's really only one or two shows for them.
So they all buy UtaPri.

Is it really that surprising Utapri's sells so well (obviously this is so high because of the concert tickets, but it usually averages around 20-25k per volume)? I mean, it's not like there have been any other otome game adaptations that have as much effort put into them by an animation studio. Plus the franchise has a lot to it, like all the image albums, drama CDs, otome games and rhythm games. It can attract a lot of different people depending on what they're into. And it's just a fun series in general.

I don't think Free is going to attract the same kind of audience though. Fujoshi in Japan aren't usually associated with the otome crowd, since they're more into shipping male characters and making doujinshi instead of self-inserting themselves in games. I'm sure Free will get a lot of attention from fujoshi, but it's just not something the otome crowd will be into. Most of the fujoshi flocked to Utapri after the anime, and after that it seems like they kind of influenced the plot of Debut...and if you know what happened with that it's pretty obvious the otome fans were not thrilled.

Its surprising since its the biggest boost ever from a 1st season to a 2nd season (based on 1st volumes). I know theres a ticket boost, but I wasn't expecting any more than 30-35k, and then for it to fall down to about 20k after that. So having one of the top 10 selling first volumes out of no where is just stunning to me.

Female Fans =/= Fujoshi.
UtaPri isn't a fujoshi show.

It has fujoshi who like it, sure, but it's not a fujoshi show.
A fujoshi show is more like K.

Pretty good on Muromi-san even with those numbers; it's half the length of a normal anime and the budget is clearly visible.

Dunno what you mean by "usually", there's only one previous series, and it's final average was 18k.

female anime fans are still okatu. If they all buy it, it would be atleast 100k+ like gundam UC/eva movie. You will be suprise how many female okatu love shonen shows.

Weekly Shonen Jump readership is like 50% female.

those seem like terrible numbers for index, especially with the movie just coming out

It's really not. Index already had a full BluRay release back in 2009. Whereas this is the first release ever for the TTGL TV anime on BluRay. That's what accounts for the disparity.
