As a follower of the Kagerou project since Kisaragi Attention, I'm happy to see his album reach the top.
Grats Jin, you deserve it! Now to wait for the supposed anime. |

I see that Vocaloids still can't sing. Surprising how little change there has been considering it's been quite a few years and the high popularity the franchise has. Just taking pre-recorded syllables and linking them together is not singing.

Eh, think of Vocaloid like a synth. I feel like it can work for some of the really fast and electronic stuff like Wowaka, but when they try to make a slow song that focuses on the singing... Nope. |

Singing is the act of producing musical sounds with the voice, and augments regular speech by the use of both tonality and rhythm. What in that definition excludes Vocaloids from being singing? You're just doing that tired old "[New Media Of The Day] isn't TWOO ART" stuff |

Definitely can't say that Jin has done much ground breaking in terms of the "realness" of vocaloid songs. He doesn't represent vocaloid as a whole either though. I'll admit vocaloid realness hasn't taken huge strides, but vocaloid producers have steadily been getting better be it in tuning or everything aside from the vocaloids. 2011's Mitchie M's "Freely Tomorrow" still strikes me as the closest to scratching the realness wall. Waiting for someone else to create something else on that caliber. Anyone know of any? My take is similar to Enigmatic's synthesizer reference. It's a synthesizer instrumental with a few elements of the human effect, namely some emotion and intonation. Not going to claim they make it all the way, but I'd say it wins over the sole pitch synthesis. It's like a guiding sample for someone to cover with. Whenever a vocaloid song with a good tune comes, I'm usually waiting more so for someone to come out with a well-sung cover. |

Why haven't you covered this information which was confirmed when the album went on sale?
The anime confirmed to be called Mekakucity Actors: Kana Asumi was confirmed as Ene's seiyuu and Kana Hanazawa as Mary. Both of them narrate 2 tracks in the Mekakucity Records album and voice this PV (Kana Asumi the first half of the video and Kana Hanazawa the second half): http://youtu.be/xkYhTw2aPRc |

Well, I think sometimes the end result sounds very nice. |

Far too jerky for me. Completely offputing within 10 seconds. If you can hear the syllables just being smashed together then I can't take it seriously. There needs to be a flow, and that's something I don't think Vocaloid (as far as I know) has ever been able to achieve.

Meh. Haters are gonna hate. However having said that; I have over 1250 ,and counting, vocaloids songs in my collection from various artists featuring various vocaloids, IA being one of them, so I can say this is not up to the standard I'm use to hearing. I congratulate Jin on his achievement and wish to take nothing away from that, Well done to him for it, but his style just doesn't float my boat, so none of his work has ended up in my collection, but then neither has Ryo/Supercell, or a few others who have had some success in the charts, so he's not alone and shouldn't take it personally. I'd like to know why something like this never gets in the charts, but nevermind. It's top of my chart and that's the only one that matters to me.

It's not that Vocaloids can't sing. It's that Jin isn't good at using Vocaloid. This is sorta "common knowledge" within Vocaloid fandom: that his music's not bad but his use of Vocaloid is subpar. Here's Ciel using the exact same Vocaloid as Jin to cover My Soul Your Beats. Because KannazukiP is a cover artist, he focuses on the use of Vocaloid more than someone like Jin would. Yes, taking pre-recorded syllables and linking them together isn't singing. But you can do a lot more with Vocaloid than that--editing dynamics, pitch, pronunciation, breathiness, brightness, clearness, deepness, openness, and portamento. All that stuff is up to the user, though, and a lot of people just can't be bothered to take advantage of it or don't know how. Jin does the bare minimum amount of tuning with Vocaloid, which is why his music sounds so flat and Vocaloid-y. (Aaand here's another cover artist who uses all those things I mentioned in her covers.) Last edited by Altorrin on Tue Jun 04, 2013 9:46 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Wow... How much money have you spent on Vocaloid CDs and downloads? That's an impressive collection. My only monetary contribution so far is for a couple of Miku singles and the double-concert BD/CD set that came out last year (year before?)... The concerts were a blind-buy, since I've never paid too much attention to the Vocaloids (and I still don't). |

I understand this, and I have no problem with it. I've just never thought to go looking for music giveaways by any artist/composer... Hmm... Thinking about it, I did once long, long ago. A friend pointed out that Susumu Hirasawa was giving away some of his Paprika music on his own website. Not long after, I imported the CD. I think that that's the only time, though. |
