Well this is my first post here and i just want to know something about Phoenix (the manga). Is it in any way related to Astro Boy? Like does Astro make a cameo at all? Because i have read the first two volumes of Astro Boy and played the Astro Boy Omega Factor game. So far the Phoenix is in only the game and it plays a small part. Thanks.

Phoenix is not related to Astro Boy, thoughI wouldn't rule out the possibility that AB might make an appearence in later volumes. Still, the two are quite diffrent (Astro Boy is for kids, Phoenix is for adults) so I'd be suprised. In any case, I'd highly recommend Phoenix, as it far surpasses Astro Boy. Volume two (Future) is probobly the best introduction.

I don't think there's much more to it, at least, that's what I've heard.

Yeah, Osamu Tezuka died before he could finish it. I think according to commentary from him in one of the volumes he intended the last story to take place in the present... Anyway, since each volume is a self-contained story, it doesn't really matter if he didn't finish it. It's still an excellent series. As for Astro Boy, I haven't read it, but it looks fun so I think I might pick up the 2003 version of the anime.

I've never heard that, but I also wouldn't be suprised as he was getting towards the later stages of his life. I suspect it was his intention to write Phoenix at diffrent points in his life so he would bring something new to the table, and the last volume would probobly be written when he was elderly. Of course he got cancer and died pre-maturely, and if he wasn't near the ending I doubt he would want to rush it. So I'd guess that it would have originally ended in the mid to late teens.

Thats what i heard about the whole thing too. Yeah, after all the great things i heard about it i think im going to pick the first couple volumes up to see if i like them. Astro Boy was pretty good, but it was a little weird because some parts were drawn well, and others were a little bit of the older Osamu drawings. And i've never seen the anime, but it must be good because it started the whole anime thing right?

I knew that he died but i did not know he died of cancer. Yes if he had done Phoenix in different stages of life it would be interesting on how they change and are new.
