Has anyone read Dr. Slump.
I have the first 5 volumes and I tell ya, its a great read.
Personally, I think that its the one of the best mangas I've read in a long time.

Synapsis: A goofy inventor named Senbei Norimaki, (in Japanese, its Norimaki Senbei, which is a small rice cracker aka Dr.Slump{because his inventions usually don't work}) lives in a place called Penguin Village. He created the perfect humanoid robot named Arale Norimaki. (small rice cracker wrapped in seaweed in Nippon-talk)

Arale and Senbei get into numerous funny adventures, involving Senbei's inventions, (i.e the Time Slipper, and the Ponpoko morph gun) and Senbei's adult magazine stash. Arale meets a number of friends ( Taro And Peasuke {he's called Peasuke because he's so short for a 14-year old} Soramame, and Akane Kimidori, who's the mischief lover.) She has a baby sister, who her and Senbei find in an egg during their time travel via Time Slipper. Her mane is Gatchan. So Arale, Senbei, and Gatchan get into a variety of adventures

It was created by Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragonball, abd DBZ. The anime is geared towards small children with some adult themes (Senbei's porno stash, and his obsession with Arale's schoolteache, Ms. Midori Yamabuki) I'm 19 now and will turn 20 in December, but I love this manga.

I hope someone sees eye to eye with me on this.

I love Akira Toriyama's sense of humor, so I bought volumes 1-3 a while ago... But I felt that I would get tired of the gag-style story pretty quickly if I was going to collect the whole series (I'm a completist) so I haven't gotten another volume since. Since you've read ahead a little further, would you say that it stays funny through the remaining volumes? I'd like to read more, I'm just a little wary of long comedy series.

Yes, I have read the series, and even though it's a bit eroi (reflecting some of the nature of DB), I think it's a winner. I like it when Arare will get into trouble and she doesn't even have a clue.

I read Dr. Slump. I have up to volume 7, and plan to buy Volume 8 tomorrow, cus my bro told me it just came out.

I like this series. It's good light hearted fun that doesn't have any serious story line that it follows. Which is refreshing, cus all the other manga I've ever read are always to be continued at the end of every chapter. Dr. Slump is one of those series you can read from just about any chapter and it'll still be the same.

It has some parts that really made me laugh, but the parts I really enjoyed were where Akira tells about his life in between some chapters. There's a particularly funny one where he and his editor go to America for a visit and start punching eachother. Others are funny too. And some of the comics randomness can crack me up.

Overall, it's a fun read, tho it could be perverted in some chapters, and may use too much toilet humor. It's not funny at every page, but while the humor may not make you laugh everytime at every page, it's still appreciated and nice to have.

Synopsis. NOT Synapsis.

Anyway...

I also have the first 5 volumes of Dr.Slump, and I think it's a pretty good series.

The Pros:
It's funny. Really, really funny. I usually hate tv shows and movies like The Benchwarmers *shudder* that revolve around jokes about poo and whatnot. It's all done in the least immature manner, making it a pleasure to read.

The Cons:
How long can Dr.Slump be funny? I find it slow-moving in some areas, and I'm only up to volume 5. This is a really long series (don't remember how many volumes, but there's a bunch), and I don't know how long it can be funny. They need a new routine.

I have up to vol.5 and its funny. My favorite chapters in vol.5 are The Great Arale-Eye caper parts 1&2.. What happens is that Senbei puts a camera in Arale's head, (while she's sleeping, of course) to let him see whatever she sees.

He then sees Arale pull up Ms. Yamabuki's skirt to see what kind of panties she's wearing. Senbei saw this and had a heart attack! Its so funny

Dr. Slump is one of the manga titles my fiance and I are buying together; we swap payments for every other volume when it comes out. It's his turn to buy the next one. Wink He's 24 and the one who insisted we start collecting it; he grew up with the Dr. Slump TV show and loves both the animation and the manga. I don't have the sense of nostalgia he does when reading the manga, but I have to admit, for a gag series, it's able to maintain a high level of energy and I'm not bored yet.

I am loving Dr Slump. There are alot of referances to other anime and even American Sci-Fi so if some of it isnt funny then you probably dont know the referance. I think Toriyama has a great sense of Humor and now I really want to see the Anime.
