From AnimeOnDVD: Bandai Visual @ Anime Expo (09:28 PM EDT): We're hoping for a full panel report later, but according to those on IRC, Bandai Visual has at long last revealed publically that they will be releasing Gunbuster (original) in the US.

This is great news for those of us fans who have been waiting patiently (or impatiently) for years trying to get a region 1 version of this outstanding series on DVD.

Gunbuster was one of the first anime tapes I ever purchased.... a loooooong time ago. The last episode wasn't really complete on those tapes, and I gotta ask, did they finish the animation for the last episode when it was released to DVD?

Hey Cuprin,

Did you see all 6 episodes because US renditions put 2 episodes on 3 tapes?

Gunbuster is complete and has one of the best endings i've ever seen.

Anyway this is fantastic news as Gunbuster is one of my all time favourites.

Yay, I can finally finish it! (Haven't seen past episode 2 of the US Renditions VHS releases.)

I just picked up the Region 2 (UK) version from ebay last week but the idea of an uncut version with a dub and decent subs makes me happier.

There won't be a dub for this title. The audio masters was lost over a decade ago.

It will be subtitled only. But this just means more room for extras.

How would the audio masters affect the dub? If anything, that would mean it would be dub only.

I think the person is talking about the sound effect tracks and music tracks which are needed to make a dub.

I didn't think about that. That would make sense.

Gunbusters is one of the titles that I've considered buying a Region 2 copy before. I'm glad it's being released here. It's odd how different a studio Gainax was back then. My favorite projects from them have always been Gunbuster, Honneamise, and Nadia. Speaking of Honneamise, is Bandai ever going to release Honneamise under their Honneamise line? If I understand correctly, Manga lost the rights to Honneamise as well as Gunbusters. It would only make sense that Bandai will do a new release.

About time Gunbuster got an R1 DVD release. Now I can retire my U.S. Renditions VHS copies for good.

Yeah I've got those tapes, and I agree it's a great ending.... it wasn't the story that I was asking about, it was the animation of it.

Has it never crossed your mind that it was done purposefully?
