I read "spunky fans" and I see Punky Brewster in a bunny girl outfit.

If they get a lunch hour that 14.28 an hour, if they don't it's 12.50. Not bad for just looking cute.

Probably at the bigger ones, it will.
I think labor laws vary from state to state, but I know that if this was in PA, an 8-hour shift would require at least one half-hour unapid and one 15-minute paid. That would mean about $13 per hour.

Nothing turns me off faster than a cosplayer who doesn't do it for the love of the character. They could be 36-24-36 and I'd still go when I saw them if knew that they were "faking it".

Hopefully by "spunky fans", they don't mean "two-hundred-and-fifty pound Sailor Moon cosplayers who don't shower".

Just because they will be getting paid doesn't mean they will be "faking" it.

Ya, that's true. At a convention in Japan (TGS actually), most of cosplayers at the booths really seemed to enjoy it. There was one cosplayer I remember who looked miserable and it looked like she was thinking "what the hell am I doing here...". She was cosplaying as Mint (GA), I took her picture, it wasn't a very good picture... but that's the only experience I've seen a cosplayer who didn't enjoy doing it. At least the Milfeulle cosplayer was very happy and in character when I took her picture...

Cosplay = salesgirl, salesgirl = cosplay!
I can't complain about anything common enough to be mentioned in Comic Party -- but here's hoping it's only the real fangirls jumping into this field.

Seconded. =/ I've been cosplaying for 7+ years and I always do it for love of the characters, and I was really considering doing this. Getting paid for something I love to do anyway? Sign me up! Too bad I'm always really busy at AX. If this was for some other con, I'd go just to do this. ^^

There's so many good things happening at Anime Expo this year, and it's really a pity I can't go. I would love to do this, but I'm only sixteen. It sounds like a lot of fun.

You know, being in my late 20's, the idea of cute and bubbly cosplaying "booth babes" still sounds appealing, even though I promised myself that I'd never go to an anime con again. Why didn't they think of this earlier?

Why is everyone assuming they're necessarily female? The news report only said "spunky fans" and "cuties"... Come on, guys!
