I only live an hour from Toronto but have never been to Anime North. I may change my mind this year.

lol everyone's talking about this Eriko Nakamura who I have no idea about, but I'm looking at Ryo "Reinhard Von Lohengramm" Horikawa. 45 minutes out of Toronto I already got my pass a month ago. This is just icing on the cake.

That's cool. I've been going to Anime North for the last few years and I'll be going this year, as well. In past years, AN has gotten VAs as guests, but not seiyuus so much. Hope this is a sign that we'll be seeing more seiyuus. DARE I HOPE FOR RIE KUGIMIYA AND AYA HIRANO AT SOME POINT???

Think bigger! we're a step closer to Yui Horie, Miyuki Sawashiro, or Kana Hanazawa.
Maybe even Asumi Kana.

Most times I've been there it's been legendary male voice actors and with a hell of a lot longer careers than the ones you've mentioned so you might want to start thinking in that direction too a little. Not that there's anything wrong with the people you mentioned but it's amusing to me how often people forget there is such a thing as older male voice talent.

I don't even know who that is really but good for you I guess.
I do know Ryo Horikawa has had a storied career and that it seems like what's her face is going to get all the attention for whatever reason so maybe I can just have Horikawa all to myself and grab a beer with him or something.

I believe the reason is that she's super cute. I wonder how she feels about tall, balding, middle-aged guys who don't speak Japanese?

I only care about female seiyuu's as shallow as that sounds! and yeah she's adorable. Haruka <3
I haven't really liked a male character in years Except Kamijou Touma If Atsushi Abe came + Satou Rina, I'd freak.

Eh. Call me when AN can get Takehito Koyasu and Hikaru Midorikawa in the same room.
Now, THAT I would spend all my life savings forever and ever on if AN ever could do that.
That being said, I've never gone solely based on VAs except that one year we had Nobuyuki Hiyama. Considering we're getting Reinhard and Enjutsu Kōro though........

A seiyu IS a VA though. Fun fact, the Japanese who care enough refer to our English VAs as "seiyu". The kanji for voice, which is 声 is a part of the word 声優 and the 優 kanji, which is yū comes from "haiyū". Before the Seiyū boom, voice actors were refered to as Koe no haiyū, which is 声の俳優 , but they decided to shorten the kanji by using only the first and last kanji. History/Japanese lesson aside, the word 声優 simply means voice actor, with no regard for nationality. El actor de voz is not just used for Spanish language actors, so trying to differenciate voice actor and seiyu is really, really foolish. |
I kind of agree, but I'm just following the convention I'm familiar with which is label non-Japanese speaking talent as voice actors and Japanese speaking talent as seiyuus even though they are providing the exact same function, just in different languages.

Horikawa seems to attend a healthy number of cons. Do most attendees mouthbreathe and shout out DBZ internet memes, or actually ask him about other, more intelligent roles?
