I've owned the Noir set for well over a year now, and have had Madlax vol. 6 since the day it was released and I had no clue these things existed. I don't know, they're kinda ridiculous, and yet, after half a bottle of livingston wine... they're pretty entertaining! So, are there any other sock-puppet things on ADV releases? Does Chris Patton ever get whacked? Razz

I especially love the Madlax one and how they throw in all the lesbian references that everyone who was watching the series was thinking!

What I don't get your sock puppet reference...okay I have only seen Noir, is Madlax worth getting or is it to say just a Noir ripoff or is it the other way around? I saw a preview/article on it in Newtype Usa and well the charcters looked like carbon copies of Mireelle and Kirkira so I am wondering bout Madlax, but someone told me that Madlax came out before Noir? Also the plot summery sounded similar, but like I said I have not seen Madlax. I also own the box set of Noir and there was no pupppets within my box set, did I get ripped off, is there actual puppets for this anime or are you talking bout something you saw inside the anime? Help Iam confused. Are you talking bout some kind of easter egg? If so how, where do you find them on Dvd's I never can? Or am I just so confused. Is it like the omake thereter in Blueseed? Okay I give up.

Whoa, slow down there.

Okay, in answer to your questions the basic answer is, yes, it's an easter egg located on the 6th volume and from my understanding there is one on volume 6 of Noir as well. The encyclopedia has an easter egg explanation on how exactly you access it and I believe the method is similar for each. Basically it's just a sock puppet parody done by the crew over at ADV, a small hidden easter egg and nothing more.

As for Madlax, it is similar in a sense to Noir but it has enough differences to be able to stand well on its own. It looks very action driven but it really isn't, it's actually a pretty slow moving series that's mostly story driven, and it's a story that can really get confusing at first. If you enjoyed Noir you'll probably enjoy Madlax, they are certainly similar but not so much so that you feel like you're seeing the same series twice. Madlax has its own strengths and doesn't simply lean on its predecessor. Only bothersome thing I found were the lesbian references already mentioned, they really seemed to be added for the sake of fan service and fantasies and seemed somewhat out of place.

1. Noir came before Madlax, about 3 years before it, I believe. You can look see the original air dates on their respective Encyclopedia pages:

Noir
Madlax

I have not seen Madlax yet, but I've heard they are very similar, but I've heard the main character Madlax is a more 'fun' version of Mireille. That's simply what I've heard (and from a person who watches anime solely to say she's seen the anime, so she never remembers any details anyway), so if I'm wrong, I apologize. Regardless, given how much I loved Noir, I'm definitely planning on watching Madlax once I get through my current backlog of "to watch" anime.

2. I was confused by the initial post as well. The 'sock puppet' commentary is an Easter Egg on the DVD.

Instructions for Noir Easter Egg
Instructions for Madlax Easter Egg

I'm looking forward to my husband returning home so we can experiment with our Noir DVDs. I also need to look into the AMV Easter Egg that's supposed to be on one of the discs as well. Once I verify the existence, I'll submit it to the Encyclopedia.

[Edit: Curse my slow typing. But still, the links are there, so no harm done, even if it does repeat info. :p I just noticed we cannot delete our own posts. That'll take some getting used to.]

eh, I don't really agree with the Madlax being Mierielle. To me, the only similarity is that they're both blonde and they both kill people for a living. However, I DO see quite a bit of Kirika in Margaret, the lost memory and mysterious persona bit. And Nahkl, though I liked her character, is pretty much a Chloe fan-pleaser. But, Chloe's my favorite character from Noir, so it was cool seeing her character re-used.

ANYWAYS... so are there anymore sock-puppets "kill Chris Patton" hidden scenes?

The main problem with Madlax is that it really lacked a understandable story that appeals to people. The story that it tries to tell is way too confusing, and there is no reward from figuring out what's going on. However, the sub-plot of Madlax and Margaret finding out about themselves is much more interesting. I really liked how it slowly drove up to a story giving out pieces and pieces of information. Also, the characters are pretty good too, especially Madlax, which is still my favorite character.

As for comparisons to Noir, I think those who liked Madlax would say that they're in actuality not that close. Those who didn't like it would say that they're very similar. I haven't seen Noir, so I can't imput on it.

Thanks all for clearing that up and sorry for my earlier freak out...lol. I really love Noir it is an awsome show, the story really draws you in and well the fact that spoiler[ it was Kirkira that shot and killed Mirelle's parents, just blew me away. How this is unraveled is also done awsome. The whole mythology of the Noir story is so intriquing and well just awsome. The fact that they were part of this long held secret industry/agency/what would you call it? My only problem is the ending it was way too open.]

Where I said earlier that I have not seen Madlax, but now that I have all this information, I think I will look into picking it up. It looks very cool. Thanks all, and also thanks for clearing up the easter egg thingly.

I personally loved the ending. spoiler[It showed that they both chose to live on and forsake the name Noir, but the fact it was left as "we'll live as we see fit." made me smile. It may just be me, but not knowing whether or not they will continue to be assassins, hunted, fighting the soldats, etc. just did not hit me as a negative, I was just happy in seeing the two of them live on. But I still thought it was enough closer to end the series.I mean, they both found what they were looking for and came to terms with it.]

As for liking/disliking Madlax, personally, I got into Madlax before I got into Noir (And thinking about this, I was wrong in saying I owned Noir for over a year, I didn't get into noir til right before vol. 4 of Madlax came out, silly me!). But I will agree that 1) Noir is far better, and 2) Madlax tends to move pretty slow, and 3)spoiler[Madlax has similar plots and plot-twists to Noir]
