Hi, I want to refer my chick friend to an anime, but I'm not sure which anime would be good for a CHICK to stat with... And so I've come here to ask for opinions... I know you guys are tired of these "recommendation" threads... but I dindt know where else to turn to. Basically it's a typical chick that has agreed to give anime a chance and watch one series. So it's due or die... I was thinking Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, Fruits Basket or maybe even Air... waht do you gusy think?

The key thing when introducing a girl to anime is don't go with your typical shougo anime. The annoyingness of Japanese relationships and annoy the crap out of western women. I know some of my friends that hate shit like Ein and stuff because of how stupid people can be. Anyhow when it comes to reccomending them something it would be best to go with their interests. Does she like sports, magic, etc. then reccomend something that is along those lines to her. My ex-girlfriend fell in love with witch hunter robin she even used to come over just to watch the next episode go figure she loved me for my anime. Anyhow good luck.

Could you provide her interests first, Nirvana? What kind of person is she? Does she prefer subs or dubs? You got to provide more information before we could recommend anything.
Out of the three example you listed, I'd say FuruBa was probably the most appropriate one, and I'd never recommend Air to a person who had never watched anime before. It's a bit confusing even for beginning fans, let alone non-fans.

May I have her phone number or instant messenger account?

Like dormcat said, you need to tell us a little about her taste. Is she one of those really feminine girls that will only watch "girly" shows, or is she one that enjoys a few limbs flying here and there?
Out of personal experience with trying to get my girlfriend to watch anime, I would say to start off it would have to be something up-lifting and sort of what she is used to seeing when she thinks of anime. I showed my girlfriend Spirited Away, well she actually bought it for me one day without notice [I LOVE THIS WOMAN], and she absolutely loved it. I still haven't made the attempt to move on to more action oriented anime becase I know it's not what she likes. I tried Grave of the Fireflies and she liked it up to the point where the little girl dies. My sister is a huge fan of Voices Of A Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days. Of course she was dating a guy in the military who was posted in Germany so she related to a lot of the stuff that was going on in Voices of a Distant Start, specially the outer space fighting...
For a "newb", your words not mine, remember to go with something simple. No philosophical stuff. One more thing both my girlfriend and sister hate are anime where all the women have big breast. They feel it's degrating and that men who watch that are perverts. But thats just these two women in my life, once you provide more information we'll be able to help you out even more.

Trigun. To my knowledge, all of my female anime friends like it, most love it, and at least one of them was introduced to anime through it. It's got a nice mix of action, drama, and comedy and shouldn't bore you if you're going to watch it with her even if you've seen it multiple times yourself.

Without knowing age or interests, the safest choice (if you're looking for a single title to represent anime to a female outsider) is probably Fruits Basket. The artwork is a bit stylish and the animation isn't the best, but it's a story made with a female audience in mind, both it and its manga version have well-proven track records, it has an utterly endearing central character, it's accessible to non-anime fans, and it has the kind of balance of comedy and serious content likely to draw a viewer in by the end of the first episode. It also has one of the truly great dub jobs out there, and I'd want to be showing her something dubbed as her first exposure.
A follow-up title seriously worth checking out is Princess Tutu, a rather different ballet-themed take on magical girl stories. My adult sister has fallen in love with that one, as will most women who ever dreamed of becoming a ballerina.
Spirited Away and Voices of a Distant Star are other solid choices.

Yea I’ve been trying to do the same with my girlfriend and its pretty hard trying to find something she likes. The ones I can sort of recommend which I suppose are slightly more feminine than say dragonball z are Escaflowne and Fruits Basket. My girlfriend loves these two, but doesn’t like much else.
Hope that helps

May I suggest Haibane Renmei. It is a shorter series 13 episodes for one. Less chance of a ditch and run before the series goes into the serious meat.
The series has a mostly female cast. Has a lighter atmosphere to start out with. You got angelic characters girls tend to love angels. That should get her in.
Then once she gets later in the series the well written sad story should lock her in. Seriously it is one of the saddest series I have ever watched. The last episodes jerked the tears out of me. So I would imagine they would jerk the tears out of your friend.

Haibane Renmei is good, but I wouldn't show it to an anime newb of either gender because of what joel said -- it's too weird/philosophical. It's also slow-moving, which contributes to the yawn factor. Air is the same way, and like dormcat said, it's more of an anime for veterans... no offense, but it would be very difficult to follow for somebody who isn't used to anime to follow its plot and read subtitles. As for KgNE, I wouldn't recommend it unless she really likes soap opera melodrama. Plus, shows like KgNE and Air that are based on dating sims are intended for guys, and their appeal relies on guys' ability to like and appreciate the female characters; on the other hand, Takayuki is one of those "guys who get all the girls in harem anime for some inexplicable reason but wouldn't get any IRL." (Plus, if you were going to show her KgNE, it'd be better to wait until this fall when it comes out in English--newbs have to be eased in via dubbed anime so that they can get used to all the visual conventions before they attempt to watch something subbed, and we all know how people (Americans at least) are averse to watching stuff in foreign languages.)
So anyway, I'd second the recommendation for Fruits Basket, as it's "accessible," and has a good dub. Plenty of pretty boys/men to look at, a strong/respectable female lead (as opposed to the hopelessly moé or subservient girls found in many other anime), and a classic "standoffish bad boy that needs reforming" (Kyo).
Another one that's at least popular with anime fangirls is DN Angel, though the fantasy in that one can be a problem.
If she's more into a bit of action, I'd recommend in addition to the standard CN fare (like Bebop and Trigun) Angelic Layer. Sure, it's "supposed" to be for boys, but there's no fanservice or humongous breasts, and it's very cute and innocent overall. If she grasps the main story thread, she'll see that it's less about the tournaments and more about the characters and relationships. The art is pretty, and several stories, including the end, are quite touching/sad.
Other anime I would not recommend are:
Violence extravaganzas (Berserk, Elfen Lied, Gantz...)
Crazy Parodies/Comedy (Excel Saga, Azumanga Daioh, Abenobashi, Kare Kano... (it's generally a romance, but the visuals are just too out there for new fans))
Romantic comedies that are harem and/or based on dating sims (Love Hina, Ai yori aoshi...)

It really does depend on her interests, but Fruits Basket is usually a FAIRLY Safe bet. I've gotten lots of friends into Anime through it, both male and female. Honestly, though it gets bashed alot now, Inuyasha is another good gateway anime. It has light romance, fights, and even a pervy monk. Miroku actually serves as a fairly good introduction to the sort of perverted things that go on into anime without going so far that he's a turn off. It also has the whole travelling time, reincarnation, bishounen bad guys, angsty backstories, and quest for an item, all things that are standard anime fare.

Out of those three I would only consider Fruits Basket a good choice. Fortunately it's a very good choice.
You might consider Ah My Goddess! since it has amazing appeal among both guys and girls. Be sure to get the OAV series since both the movie and TV series cater largely to an existing fanbase. The OAV has only five episodes so she might be more willing to start watching it over a much longer series.

The Full Metal Panic dub would be brilliant. Its just super. Show the first five episdoes and then episode 8 and 13 and 14 and skip the mecha ones and then jump to Full Metal Panic: Furnoff?
a truly amazing series
do not even go near the subed version.............don't even think about it.

I heartily recommend The Vision of Escaflowne.
This series has a very nice story to it, and the characters are great. It's really what anime is all about, and it's the first (and best imo) anime I've watched.
It has romance, adventure, some action, some comedy, maybe a bit of polotics. basically, it has some of everything in it, and no objectionable conent. Seriously, you should check it out, a must see anime. I'm sure your friend will like it!

Eh? What the hell is a "chick"? If you're referring to a female friend, give her some respect.
But anyhow, I would recommend Fushigi Yuugi because the guys in that anime are SO hot!!! and sweet!!!

Fruits Basket seems to be the general consensus, and I would agree that it'll have the best chance of getting that girl to like anime. Inuyasha is also good, and there seem to be a lot of Bleach fangirls.
Harem types and Violence types are usually no-no's when it comes to girls. Also, staying away from dating sim or ecchi types are ways to play it safe.
Good LUCK
