I hope Savers is good, but more than just for it's own sake. I hope that it is good enough that people watch it and would be willing to buy it because if people buy Savers, there's the chance that the previous seasons and the recently dubbed movies will finally see a DVD release.

Haven't they exhausted digimon.
Of course, Power Rangers and Moblie Suit Gundam aren't dead either. Now that I think about it, Pokemon is alive and well. Here's hoping it's good. |

2007 does seem pretty far away, I guess they're not in a hurry about it since it's already been a few years. That or it's actually going to take that long to set up everything they want to set up with the release.
Why does Agumon* get to have another main role? He was already in season 1 as a major player. Then he was seen around in season 2. And for some reason, I want to say that Agumon showed up again in one of the other seasons as a background 'help the digimon of the day' type episode, but I can't specifically remember. Why are they reusing the character instead of using one that was just a background character before or *gasp* even just straight up create another one? I mean, it's ok to have them show up in the background, like the Gomamon episode in Frontier, but we've seen Agumon's abilities before. And pulling some weird new thing with him, like the Digieggs in season 2 would just be strange and forced feeling. Is it just plainly that he's that popular? And SoloButterfly, not to be negative or a party crasher, but who's to say that it'll even get released on DVD? I think that's jumping the gun a bit, especially since the others didn't get released. Not that I don't agree you anyway. I want Digimon DVD releases too! 
*Yes I realize that this Agumon (should be) totally different from Tai's Agumon. I'm just talking about Agumon as a digimon species, not as the season 1 character, despite how it may have sounded. |

It's all about money; Agumon is the poster-boy (figuratively) for the Digimon franchise. Likely, Bandai is hoping Savers will be the most aptly named show since the movie adaption of "A Series of Unfortunate Events".
... I doubt Digimon Savers will be a success. Assuredly, I'm jumping the gun already because I have not even seen an episode of the series, but Digimon's run pretty much ended when FoxKids faded from the world; season four deviated far too much from the three previous installments (not to mention it was shown irregularly) and interest in the franchise now appears tepid at best. Judging from the character designs, Savers looks to put an "edge" on the Digimon, which isn't a typical sign of faith that the characters could hold water as they originally were. |

It's nice to see that the new Digimon anime has already been licensed. I wonder if Toon Disney is going to be the ones to air it when it's dubbed, but why is it taking so long? The old Digimon seasons were always dubbed and ready to go the same year they were released in Japan. I worry that by the time it gets to '07 everyone will have forgotten about Digimon to even really care about it, but then maybe that's what they're counting on. I guess most of the current Digimon fanbase is already tired of the series and by the time it's '07 there'll be enough people who's never seen Digimon that they'll have a fresh audience to work with, but it's still ridicilous for the dubbing to take that long to do. At least there'll be fansubs of it until then since hell would freeze over before an official subbed version of Digimon is ever licensed.

I think the only reason why Agumon is being used is because the series is somewhat based on concepts in the manga, Digimon Next.

What is the intended audience for this show?? I've seen several of episodes of Digimon when it debuted on US TV (FOX right?). I honestly did not expect the show to do well, competing against Pokemon I guess. Pokemon seemed to have an edge over Digimon in every way. Can someone explain the allure of this show over a standard children's anime like CCS?

The edge Digimon has always had over Pokemon is that it has good plotlines, the main theme of each series basically being that of saving the world, whereas in Pokemon they basically seem to wander around beating up wild creatures, capturing them then forcing them to fight for peoples amusement

I always liked Digimon better than Pokemon. Agumon IS Digimon IMO. Just thinking of Digimon, Agumon (or any other of his Digivolutions) pops up into my head. 2007 does feel really far away, but so did 2006 back in 2005... time flies when you get older for some strange reason, so Digimon will be here before we know it. I wouldn't mind watching it, I think I only saw up to season 2, and see if the series has improved. The Digimon movie is still one of my favorite, and funniest movies that I have ever seen.

For one thing, Digimon actually has a contionous storyline whereas Pokemon is highly episodic. Digimon has actual character development whereas the characters in Pokemon always stay the same. With a few expections, the Pokemon always only speak by making a noise or saying their names and they were only used as deus ex machinas for a fight scene, but the Digimon can speak the human language and they actually have unique personalities. Digimon also has an edge by being targeted at a slightly older demographic than Pokemon. Pokemon's appeal is mostly only with younger children and a few obessesive older anime fans, but Digimon is a family show that not only is safe enough for children to watch, but its storyline is intelligent enough that older anime fans can enjoy it too, and some of the later episodes of the series (especially during Digimon Tamers) were actually quite dark and serious for a children's anime. So, while Pokemon may be more popular than Digimon, Digimon has an edge over it by having a broader sense of mass appeal. |
