All that, and you haven't seen Samurai Champloo? I highly recommend that anime. It's real mature (blood, guts, hookers), but it's real funny and very much like Cowboy Bebop.

You're also missing out on Chrono Crusade, Witch Hunter Robin, and Wolf's Rain. Crusade is a lot of fun to watch at the start, and in places, it can break your heart. Robin is a good series, but it's pretty hit-or-miss. Wolf's Rain is just good, no two ways about it.

Normally I'd refer you to here and here for yet another one of these neverending recommendations threads but since a birthday is something special, I recommend you try the Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars series. It's similar to the Full Metal Panic series in that they're both made from novels, they're both action/romance, and they're both excellent titles. I personally rate CotS/BotS higher than FMP but don't take my word for it - see for yourself.

The order of the CotS/BotS series is as follows:
Crest of the Stars - Birth
Crest of the Stars TV
Banner of the Stars TV
Banner of the Stars II TV
Banner of the Stars III (OAV)

Maybe you can find a special set or something for a cheap price.

Well, if you liked Naruto, I'm going to suggest One Piece. It's about a pirate named Luffy who wants to become the pirate king. I'm only 12 episodes in and I like it a lot and I hear it just gets better. You should definitely check it out.

Banner of the Stars 3 hasn't been licensed yet and Birth is actually a 10-15 minute extra feature on the BotSII box (the last DVD, I think).

Awesome series, by the way. If you like Star Trek or just sci-fi drama in general, you'll love this franchise. Good luck and have fun.

EDIT: Fixed my Banner of the Stars II acronym.

I've decided recently that the Banner/Crest of the Stars series will be my next sci-fi anime title, but seeing what you've enjoyed, I would definitely suggest you check out Rahxephon and Last Exile too. Those are some excellent choices given what you are into.

I don't know if this effects your birthday requests, but they, like Chrono Crusade (which was very good) and the Banner/Crest series, are all available in complete collections.

Last Exile is pretty expensive (Geneon) even as a thinpack collection, and Rahxephon/Chrono Crusade are less expensive thinpacks. Crest of the Stars retails at under 40 dollars, while Banner of the stars, the first sequel, doesn't street until May 9th.

The reason I'm saying this may sound awful, but if it's a gift and could save you some cash for another series, I'd say get one of the others and pick up Crest of the Stars on your own. It's readily available even at Best Buy.

Last Exile and Rahxephon are pretty amzing though. Definitely make it a point to check those out.

Fighting Spirit is a wonderful, though overlooked, gem. I figure you'll really like it if you're into shonen/fighting series like DBZ and Kenshin. Plus Geneon's DVDs of it are sweet. 5 eps, plus English, Japanese, and Spanish audio. I really REALLY recommend it.

I also recommend Hellsing if you're into more mature titles. It has quite a strong fandom here in the States, and I tend to find it has a great cast, great designs, and fills the action/horror void quite well.

Also, Berserk... everyone loves Berserk.

I notice you have alot of hero archetype animes on that list. I would like to suggest the following.

Ninja scroll the movie. Ninja scroll the series. I highly doubt you will be disappointed. A cool action hero with swords sorcery. Wicked cool bad guys. Think samuri champloo meets naruto. The series is quite similar to the movie, and the movie is a must watch.

I probabally would not recommend crest of the stars, or banner of the stars. I got crest and banner season 1. I like it but it is a very slow series. Plus the action takes a back step to a very rhythmic character developement. A fair comparison might be the foundation series by asimov. Not a anime but novel. If your looking for alot of good action this series is not for you. The space battles are very difficult to follow, and not what I would call visually good. Also I would have to say there is a political undertone similar to starship troopers. Basically the good guys have major freaking faults. That might leave you fealing a little turned off. You have to understand there is a political commentary there. Unless your into a distopian view of the future. You may find yourself thinking my god some of these people are nothing more then sadists at best. My view you will not like this series. Either you will find it likeable or hate it alot. There just is not of a middle ground here. Better to not risk disappointment.

A few other series you might like.

Yu Yu hakusho. Very similar to all the dragonballs. Alot of the same elements. Combat wise its pretty much the same deal. The same kind of characters, and the story progression is about the same.

Fafner. A nice mech series. It has a few inovative elements as compared to gundam or EVA. What I have seen I have liked of it. What can be said the genre is pretty much a set pattern or formula. Fafner does some things better others not. Never the less its a very pretty show.

Hope that helps.

I just said this in another recommendation thread, but you seem to like robots so:
Overman King Gainer-All 6 volumes are available now and it's great. Wink The ANN review didn't seem to like how the first volume moved very fast(in terms of story). It's true it does throw alot at you at first, but the events that happen at the beginning are supposed to be kinda hectic so I think it works(and really its just the first 3 or 4 episodes out of 26). I didn't really find that part all that confusing or fast anyway. But this is action packed!

Seems like you're the action type. Since nobody has mentioned it, nor is it on your seen list, I will suggest to you Bleach. Bleach is poorly described on the encyclopedias. The beginning is boring, which is what most encyclopedias tell you. However, the only problem with that is that I don't believe it has been made into DVD's nor dubbed. It's just been recently licensed by Viz, so it seems like the only way to get it is from fansubs. Anyway, It would be a great choice, and you'll definitely be hooked.

Since you've seen Ghost in the Shell, I'll say GitS: Stand Alone Complex. It's basically the movie elements in a TV series and who can say no to Yoko Kanno's BGM and Origa's (Singing in Russian? Oh yeah...) OP? When you finish, watch the second season, GitS: Stand Alone Complex 2ng GIG
You've also seen FLCL, so I think you may want to try Azumanga Daiyo or Sakigake! Cromartie High. Excel Saga may be a little to extreme for your tastes, but you may be able to handle it's zaniness.
I believe people have already said these, but I'd also recommend Scrapped Princess, Hellsing, Elfin Lied (VERY bloody/violent), FMP Fumoffu, Macross/Robotech, One Piece (though I don't know where you'd be able to find a decent version other than by illegal means or the R2 releases) and Rahxephon.

Oh yes, and happy birthday!
