Ok people who’s up for some horribly controversial discussion. im kinda scared about starting this topic actually because im not sure weather comparing one anime to another is directly allowed but here it goes.
How about it then is it cowboy bebop or Rurouni Kenshin, which anime do u prefer or like more than the other. Or which do u like and which do you dislike. i started this topic because i don’t like believing in what statistics say i don’t know why i just don’t. Im a person who want to know what you the individual thinks rather than the mass. i know not all fans of the shows who voted in the top ten anime will be posting (i doubt anyone will anyway) but i still want to know what all you guys think one at a time. Ok so I’ve decided to start this off with my own personal favourite, which will start off a bit of a reaction. Being someone who has watched anime for 5 years. i consider myself still to be a little new to some things. Anyway enough of that rubbish here is my choice... my choice is cowboy bebop. Its the anime i saw before almost everything else (with the exception of pokemon) and that is why i believe it is better in my opinion. i think it has a more relaxed sense of story telling. Its storyline is extremely complex and is very well written. it uses a serious, dark, sinister background basis for the story, while at the same time being extremely funny, relaxed, exciting, and complete madness. the soundtrack is simple amazing and is probably Kanno at her best aswell as the characters which are some of the best anime characters around. All the characters contribute something to the show, and yet all have almost nothing in common. The show is a work of art and should be recognised as being the best. That is my opinion i have chose not to comment on Rurouni Kenshin because im afraid if i did then i would be assassinated. That’s my opinion and i want to know yours. Remember there are no wrong or right answers and please don’t argue just discuss. Thank you and happy posting

ok im sorry if my post has made no sense what so ever all i want you to do is compare the two and decide which one u prefer, that’s all. Being the top two animes on this site i wanted to know what the individual thinks rather than the mass. if this post is too stupid can a mod please remove or lock it thanks

I kind of disagree with your logic on this. To assume there is a silent majority in the wings somewhere does that make it so. The truth is be it poll forum or chat what you see really is what is. In other words if a poll said more people preferred kenshin. More people prefered kenshin.
I just thought I would throw that out I used to play star wars galaxies, and 4 months ago they decided to overhaul the game totally. Made it very bad in my oppinion. Needless to say when people started throwing fits the suits on the project started to refer to these people as a vocal minority. Well they were not. That game is now on life support and probabally will not last the year. Simply because likely 80% of the subscribers left in outrage. Take a poll for what it says. Do not assume it is different to meet your expectations or wants. There are no silent masses or hidden voters out there. Assume that the poll members are a accurate representation of the populace. All your saying is there is something fundamentally wrong with the poll members, or that Bebop fans must be lazy. In either case this thread is totally flame bait. I personally preferred Bebop, and to be fair I did not really care for kenshin. There really is no way to compare them they are genre. You cannot compare hunting, and swimming. All they have in common is they are outdoor activities. Like kenshin and bebop both happen to be anime. I suppose samuri champloo would be a better comparison to kenshin. Big O probabally would be a good comparison to bebop seeing as those shows share many common elements. I am not sure whether head to heads are allowed on this forum or not, but wouldnt a head to head with similar titles be better. It would atleast spark discussions of a very interesting nature. You would get people compareing fighting styles for one. |

hmm you good a good point hmm this is gonna make things complicated but i shall try and get it across.
the discussion topic has changed in some ways if you want to dicuss wether or not kenshin or bebop is better then please do so. but if you dont and dont really see the point then compare the two to other animes or the same sub genre such as kenshin to samurai champloo or bebop to Big O. sorry for the confusion and if this confuses you even more than im very sorry. basicly i want to know which is better out of kenshin and bebop with reference to there narrative, soundtrack and characters. which do you feel is better in the way of storytelling??? again please feel free to compare the two, to other anime like the example given above. |

In my opinion, I think Kenshin is a much better series than Cowbow Bebop.
Cowboy Bebop was good entertainment. I think the style and the jazzy music was a nice touch, but I found that the overall story lacked depth. There was zero chemistry between Spike and Faye, and that Ed girl was the most annoying character ever. Rouruni Kenshin on the other hand, has a lot of amazing characters, good and bad. Some of the coolest characters were actually bad guys, like spoiler[ Aoshi, Seijuro Seta, Saito, etc ] while Spike fights only unknown 1-episode lifetime bad guys who don't stand a chance against him (until he fights the big boss). There is plenty of depth to the story and you find there is chemistry between several of the characters. The action was top knotch. RK had some flaws like the sometimes childish humor and the filler episodes after the battle against Shishio, however, it had everything that CB lacked to become what I consider a masterpiece. I never saw Rurouni kenshin so I like Cowboy Bebop better. Cowboy Bebop was very interesting and the movie just blew me away. But the mention of Rurouni kenshin got me interested and i'm going to look it up now.

This makes no sense. If you haven't seen one, you can't say the other is better. Watch the two first. And this topic is wack. If you want to see what people prefer use the Top 10 Anime list And if you want to read some reason on what people prefer, there's always there top 10 thread dicussion. This is a wider view, because it doesn't restrict to just two anime. They are really different anime and the only thing they have in common is that they're overly popular. I say watch other anime, because these two series are definitely not the only good series out there. |

i don't like both. ok i only like the first 1/3 of kenshin, then the rest sucks. Cowboy bebop's story and characters desgin are not my cut of tea.

I have to go for Kenshin though I have to say Bebop is very nice. The main reason Kenshin wins is I find the who sword thing more preferal to guns. And since I don't want to start a sub discussion I leave it at "I just think swords are cooler, especially katanas". Though spoiler[Vicious's sword almost won it for Bebop.]

I think your asking is legimate. If the mods don't like it they can shut it down easy enough. And I didn't think the question was too difficult. But, in answer to your question, I think I would vote Bebop. I really dig the opening song, "tank." One of the few anime openings I actually listen to for each episode. I may even be able to play it on my bass soon. Maybe my not voting for RK, is that the series was just too short. And that the successive new releases did not mesh perfectly. I felt as if I was missing a big hole in the picture. I was really pushing the "I believe button." And CB is written in a more continuous story arc. I do like history. It is one of my favorite subjects. And I do try to watch as many historical movies as I can. I also stretch this to other cultures, to a point. call me myopic, but I don't like to watch how terrible something is, but how wonderful something can be, or is, or was. To not be able to say that one could not say which title is preferred, is like not being able to say that you couldn't prefer hockey over curling at the Olympics. You like one, and maybe not the other, or maybe both, but one speaks more to you than the other. I prefer hockey to curling. Go Red Wings! While I do agree Ed is most annoying, and perhaps the characters are a little flatter in Bebop than in RK, it could just be I like Sci-Fi more that historical fiction. Have Fun Jay |

It's hard to compare Kenshin and Bebop in techincal ways, since they're so different. Based on enjoyment, I have to say I enjoyed Rurouni Kenshin more. Bebop was much shorter, and only a few episodes actually follow the plot. The other episodes are great, but it doesn't create as much enjoyment. Also, Rurouni Kenshin is straight forward, some of the Cowboy Bebop stuff is better if thought about more carefully. Basically, Rurouni Kenshin is more viewer friendly and more fun in general.

SpaceCowboy64, whats with you and Bebop? Every topic you start has to do with Bebop. I see the Shinji avatar and right away I knew what you were gonna say...
But anyway, I agree with darkhunter that this topic is just plain stupid. You have a 26 episode anime series that is aired everyday on adult swim, and you´re comparing it to a series with more than 80 epìsodes that was never completed... maybe you should have added Case Closed just for kicks. Make us pick between a Swordsman, Bounty Hunters, or a little Detective. |
