Hmmm where have I heard this near exact same situation before? I don't know... maybe Ghost in the Shell? Oh well it may be interesting.

I am looking forward to seeing these new productions as well. I wonder if they will use the same style of cg used in the first appleseed movie or if they will incorperate any new technologies.

I'm looking forward to that. I just hope that they pick a good studio to do the design work. And personally I would perfer them to keep to Shirow's style but that might be asking too much.

I'd like it to be a little less obviously digital, Shirow has a unique drawing style that, in my opinion, is lost in digimation.

I'm sure the series will be licensed quickly, but I just want one fansubbed episode to see the style and hear the voices. Even though I'll buy it anyway Embarassed

Seeing as how I went apeshit over the movie, I can't friggin' wait for this! Personally, I hope they step up the quality of the animation for the new stuff (though I thought the film was hella amazing to begin with).

I'm with you on that. Wink

I've been a fan of 'Shirow' for a long time.

You do make a good point on the digimation stuff. I'm assuming your talking about his computerized colorization of work he's done recently. If that it, then that would almost explain why some fans had probably been slight turned off. But one thing to expect in this series... CGI. And a good deal of it considering the amount of mechanical and technical designs that have to worked into the story. Maybe the studio that handled 'GITS:SAC' could be a candidate for this project.

It's about time. Appleseed was the very furst manga series that I had picked up way back when Eclipse International began publishing the first round of manga titles here in the United States. While legions of manga fans have been aimpatiently waiting for Mr. Shirow to finish his epic series, only four books out of ten have been completed, most of us saw the original movie and even the re-imagined CGI movie but now that the TV Series is being bandied about, hopefully he'll give us a completed series by using the anime to complete his epic story.

It was the title that got me into manga as well, and really, I still haven't read anything definitively better. After waiting for new material for so long after volume 4 and the databooks came out, a friend and I even invented a roleplaying game based on Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell, just so we could have something to hold us over.

Personally, I'm not that enthusiastic about another movie, since the first (and the OVA that preceded it) was so lackluster. I never, ever, thought I'd regret spending time or money watching an Appleseed film. Unless they bring in an entirely new production team, I couldn't care less about watching another.

The television series on the other hand holds a lot more promise. Appleseed is fairly episodic and involves a lot of intertwined story threads that are difficult to do justice to in a two hour film. This is why I think it would really work much better as a series. GitS: SAC would be a good place to start in terms of the look and feel. Plus, in today's climate, I think it's amazingly relevant with it's focus on rogue states and terrorism.

I wish Shirow would reveal his intentions for Appleseed. I mean, did he run out of ideas, lose his enthusiasm for it, or is it that he feels it has to be perfect to live up to it's reputation, so he keep tweaking it into infinity?

I kind of agree with s. shadows. I am not necessarily looking forward to more Appleseed, if it is like that last CG re-make, re-telling of the story. I thought it wass too "Americanized." It also didn't have the love and cameraderie that cops have for fellow cops. There wasn't that dynamic tension of love as there was in the earlier release way back when.
