So, I was kind of bored and felt like doing a little survey. Any anime fans out there who know extra languages? If there are, what languages do you know, and where are you from?

I am from Mexico, so I also watch anime in Spanish. Personally, I prefer watching anime in English, but when I go to Mexico, I have to watch it in Spanish.
I used to watch Dr. Slump everyday whenever I used to go down there, I wonder if it will be available in the US anytime soon. I'm not trying to be a jerk... Why don't you tell us where you are from, and what, if any, other languages you speak or watch anime in. I also know French, but haven't got the opportunity to watch any Anime in French. I changed the Subject a little bit, for there's a prominent figure at ANN who can speak about a dozen.
As for myself, my native language is Chinese (Mandarin), with 115% proficiency -- above average (100%) with a standard error. English is about 80%. Japanese...without helps from translating tools, I can comprehend about 30% by reading (thanks to kanji), 15% by listening, and express <5% by speaking and writing. Several other misc languages (German, Spanish, French, Latin) I know very little (<1%) sans few basic or technical (in the case of Latin) terms.

I'm Chinese, and have been living in America for the past 10 years. I'm fluent in both Mandarin and English. Personally, I'd love to be able to understand anime in its original language, due to authenticity. However, viewing in either Mandarin or English is fine too, but emotions are often lost from translating.

I'm Chinese-Canadian and I can speak Cantonese, but not Mandarin. I'm not fluent in writing or reading it, but I can speak it very well. I'm also fluent in English and French. I can speak a tad bit of Japanese and I can read hiragana and a few kanji but that's about it. I know tid bits of other languages, but not enough to be considered fluent.

I'm from the Philippines so I know Tagalog. I studied spanish in middle school and my sophomore and junior year. I also know a little bit of japanese(I have a Japanese basics book). I also plan on studying Chinese in college as well as continuing to study spanish.

English, Spanish and Russian and working on French and Japanese.
I still think Spanish Saint Seiya and DBZ were the best, haven't had a chance to watch any anime in Russian but I don't think there are any good dub companies there tho in truth I have not researched this. I sure would love to, I know stuff like Mushishi, Kino no Tabi or Haibane Renmei would be amazing in Russian. |

Well, besides English, I am a native Spanish speaker, since I am from Central Mexico, have taken a few French & Italian classes, and currently prepping for a Japanese class.

I'm from the U.S.A. and can speak English and Spanish, though I prefer to read and listen in English, just because it's easier on me.
I'm also learning French and German, and now I want to learn Japanese. However, I could never understand what was going on if you asked me to watch in those languages without subtitles.

I'm Japanese (born in America) and can understand about 80% of the language verbally if it's just normal everyday conversation, and express about 70%. I can watch episodes without subtitles and pretty much understand what they're talking about but will miss some details. My reading comprehension is rather weak though because I don't know very many kanji, but I can understand most words if they're in hiragana/katakana or basic kanji. Fluent in English.

I'm from the Philippines too so I am fluent in both Filipino and English. Now I'm studying here in Taiwan and am under a Mandarin language program. I also pick up a little Japanese from people...

I'm from California, studied Japanese for nine years, so I can speak English and Japanese. I tried taking a Spanish course, but it didn't work out for me. Understanding Japanese is one of the reasons I watch anime.

I'm Chinese born in Malaysia but will be moving to work in Gunma prefecture, Japan in a few months' time.
Languages that I can speak plus level of proficiency: English - 100% Mandarin - 80% Cantonese - 60% Hakka - 70% Hokkien - 70% Malay - 60% Japanese - 50% Osaka dialect Japanese - 20% My first post in ANN! YAY!

Well, what can i say?
Im Chinese born in Australia I can speak: Chinese(cantonese) i can only speak maybe 30% of cantonese(even though its my background language  )
English- My best language so far, because i've been rasied in a english speaking, (tru blue) country. i can speak most it, currently studying advanced english in yr 11 at secondary school. French- i studied French for about 2 years. I proberly know about 20% of it. Japanese- Dont know japanese except for the most commonly words used in anime. You know what i mean eg Baka, nani. I must admit, i hate people who think they know japanese because they can say "baka", "nani", "Nanda" Die ja Bu?" etc etc. I know some people at my school who are chinese , or Korean and speak Japanese to each other. It just pisses me off
